Play: It’s Not Just for Kids

Each of the following items is interactive in some way. It’s up to you to figure out how they work.

Have you figured out how each one works yet? If you’re stuck click here. It’s also a good link to explore if you’re looking for similar games. The man who creates them has a fascinating site!

Play

The mechanics of playing has been on my mind recently. Every child I’ve ever met has been interested in some sort of imaginative or creative play and many of my adult friends continue to experience our world with fresh eyes.

I think the Internet is like an adult version of a playground or park. There are many different activities going on at once and one can usually jump easily from one game to the next. It’s also something that we spend time on because it’s entertaining. Some people earn a living online but this doesn’t seem to be the motivation of most.

If only the Internet could somehow include a real sandbox and swing set, though! Those were my two favourite parts of going to the park as a kid. (And as an adult. 😉 )

Why do we play? It’s fun. Sometimes it helps us express emotions or ideas that are difficult to draw out in more grown-up ways like writing or talking. Everyone has a story to tell.

Why do some people stop playing? I wish I knew.

How would you answer these questions?

  1. Cool! Thanks for finding these. And yes, I think we all need play in our lives. Having fun is a good thing and I’m not sure why we tend to stop. Maybe play is wrongly associated with children and not with grownups, but I suspect as adults we need play even more! Just my thoughts and again thanks! Had fun with these.

I have always loved to play and I have not stopped! My ‘adult’ play is somewhat different than it was when I was a kid. love treasure hunts and scavenger hunts, all kinds of board games, tea parties, and playing Old Maid with the grandkids. I could go on and on but you get the idea. I think many people give up on play once they begin a career. They are limited by time and energy. For instance, my husband gets up for work at 4:30am, gets home around 4pm, and by 8 he’s ready for bed! That doesn’t leave much time for play! So, it’s important for someone like that to surround themselves with people like me…who insist on some ‘play’ time!

Sports are a way for adults to ‘play’ and not feel self-conscious. It’s acceptable to participate in a sport. It might not be looked at in the same way to go to a park and swing, or go on a treasure hunt. Sometimes I feel self-conscious that I LIKE to play…like I should ‘grow up’ or something!! haha

I loved the little games and the link is great! Thanks for sharing.
