What Is Your Theme Song?

I’ve really gotten into a musical rut. Most of the artists I listen to are from the 90s and 00s, and I tend to go back to them over and over again.

I’m purposefully not mentioning which artists or styles of music I like so I don’t sway your recommendations.  Some people only like one genre of music, but I’m not one of them.

What have you been listening to?

My tastes are all over the place. I’ll ignore the eighties stuff, since that’s your usual, but, well…

Symphonic Rock: Epica, Xandria, Within Temptation, Diabulus In Musica, and a mess of related ones.

Humor / Light-Hearted: Tom Lehrer, Jonathan Coulton (check out “Re: Your Brains”), Richard Cheese, Trout Fishing In America…

Irish Rock: Flogging Molly, The Corries, Dropkick Murphies, Boiled In Lead, The Real McKenzies (check out “Bugger Off” – NSFW, though)…

Techno / Electronic / Industrial: VNV Nation, Ron of Rust, Gary Numan (his recent stuff is a lot darker than what he was doing back in the 80s), Black Heart Processional…

Recent Discoveries, Etc.: The Bones of J.R. Jones, The Heavy, Lenka, Moloko (Things To Make And Do), Roadkill Ghost Choir, Rodrigo & Gabriella, The Dollyrots, Voltaire, DeVotchKa, The Lost & Nameless Orchestra…

Heh. That oughtta keep you busy for a bit!

I’m currently listening to Queen. I recommend their two greatest hits albums if you want to listen to a variety of what they do. Those albums are Classic Queen and Greatest Hits. If you’re looking for something mellow, I recommend Enya or Secret Garden. For fun, I recommend to Gaelic Storm. If you want to dance, Maroon 5. I hope that helps you get out of your musical rut. Happy listening! 🙂

I thought of some more recommendations. Carly Simon’s album No Secrets is excellent. I like every song on it, so you might want to give that a try as well. You already know The Beatles are my favorite band. I recommend their album Rubber Soul, though Abbey Road is also very nice as well. I also enjoy listening to piano music by composers from the Romantic period. If that interests you, you might check out Chopin, Franz Liszt, and Franz Schubert. I’ve also recently been dipping my toe into the Baroque period and found that I enjoy Antonio Vivaldi. Okay, I’ll stop typing now. 🙂
