Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Favourite Movie Quotes (and Why)

Hosted by Long and Short Reviews.

Four blocks that spell out the word hope I narrowed down this week’s topic to movie quotes only.

“Just keep swimming.” -Finding Nemo (2003)

Why I Love It: Sometimes this is the best advice for a hard day, week, month, or year!

“If you build it, he will come.” – Field of Dreams (1989)

Why I Love It: I’ve had multiple experiences in life that showed the value in putting in hard work long before you have any inkling if, how, or when that effort will pay off. More often than not, you will be rewarded when you least expect it.

“Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.” – Back to the Future (1985)

Why I Love It: This makes me giggle. It’s as simple as that.

“There’s no crying in baseball!”  – A League of Their Own (1992)

Why I Love It: Not only does this make me giggle, the context gives me hope as well. This film was loosely based on the first women’s baseball teams in the United States during World War II. The players dealt with many naysayers who thought women shouldn’t play baseball, especially professionally. I truly enjoyed seeing how they and their coach responded to that and rose above everyone who tried to stop them.

“This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” – Casablanca (1942)

Why I Love It: There’s nothing like meeting someone and realizing that you two would make excellent friends.

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it, always.” – Gandhi (1982)

Why I Love It: Hope is something that should always be cultivated.

  1. I love there’s no crying in baseball. I’ve used that line so many times and I replace baseball with other words, like bookclub, or medical care. Silly, I know! hee hee

  2. great choices…. and I have to admit they make me want to rewatch these movies!!
My post is here if you want to stop by.

  3. We keep quoting from film and tv at home all the time, especially “Friends”. But one of my favourite parts of any film is when Sally orders cheesecake in “When Harry Met Sally”.

  4. I loved “A League of their Own,” so I love the quote above, “There’s no crying in baseball.” That was a great movie. 🙂 Another one for me is “You just have to give Hope a chance to float up.” It’s from the movie “Hope Floats.” That one really touched my heart as well.

  5. I used Field of Dreams, too. 🙂 It’s a great movie. Good quotes. 🙂

  6. Great quotes. I mostly avoided using movie quotes for mine, or else I’d have added the “This is my family…” bit from Lilo and Stitch. That one just undoes me completely, every time. My list is here.

  7. I love that Gandhi movie with Ben Kingsley. It’s possibly the most moving drama I’ve ever watched. I’m tempted to participate in this one, but mulling through so many options might consume the entire day!

  8. Back to the Future is one of my favorites. I had the biggest crush on Michael J. Fox back in the 80’s. I’m known for shouting, “One point twenty-one gigawatts?!?” anytime something horrifies or annoys me. Hahaha. Yeah, nerd alert. 🙂

  9. WOW, great quotes. Loved them all especially the back to the future one and Just keep swimming. Thanks for sharing. Here’s mine. https://www.tenastetler.com/favorite-book-or-movie-quotes-lsrs-wednesday-weekly-blogging-challenge/

  10. Gandhi has many great lines. Forgot about Casablanca, it has some great ones too. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/08/wc-081920.html

  11. Casablanca has so many iconic quotes – Back to the Future also great!

  12. There are lots of quotes from “Back to the Future” that I love (“Great Scott!”). And I’ve said, “There’s no crying in XXX.” many, many times!

  13. I do love A League of Their Own. It’s a classic film.

  14. In Winter’s Bone, the scene where Ree shows Sonny & Ashley how to kill & gut a squirrel brings home how desperate things are for them.

Sonny (holding the entrails) Do we eat this part?
    Ree: Not yet.
