Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Wishes

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

I am blessed to have access to a wonderful public library system that has most of the books I want to read, so I will once again pick wishes that are more whimsical in nature.

Dandelion seeds being blown away by the wind from a mature dandelion in a grassy field. My bookish wishes are as follows:

1) Just like I mentioned last time, I wish the Toronto Public Library could raise their hold limit for ebooks. They cut it in half last autumn, probably due to how expensive ebooks are. If only such decisions were never necessary.

2) A comfortable bench in the shade to sit on at the park on a day that isn’t too hot or humid. I love hearing birds chirp and leaves rustle while I read.

3) Satisfying and logical endings for every series. It’s irritating when the last book or books in a series are never written or when they are eventually released but totally ignore the foreshadowing and character development from earlier instalments.

4) Tasty new dairy-free treats at my favourite coffee shops…and ideally a shaded empty table on their patios so I can sit and watch friendly people and dogs pass by as I eat, drink, and read.

5) Growth for the bookish community in general and Top Ten Tuesday in particular. The more readers, reviewers, and bloggers we have, the better if you ask me!

6) More time for blog hopping. I am so behind on commenting on other people’s posts it’s not even funny.

7) New books being released from everyone’s favourite authors. I want us all of to be excited for what is to come.

8) Ideas for blog posts. I haven’t any creative ones in a while, so thank goodness for blog hops like Top Ten Tuesday and the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge.

9) More virtual bookish events. If anyone knows of any, please share!

10) More bookish friends. I’m casting my net widely.

I wonder if anyone else will take a similar approach this week?

  1. A nice comfortable spot to read outside would be wonderful! Especially when the weather is agreeable. I wish I had more time and energy for blog hopping. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.

  2. Growth for the bookish community in general – I would love this too! I am working on an idea for a virtual bookish event for fall. We have a busy summer but I am hoping to settle in this autumn with some fun bookish things. I am all about building community!

I hope you find your comfortable bench on a beautiful day to read upon. 🙂

  3. I went the lazy way and just shared covers of books that attracted my attention in the bookstore! I can second the cozy park bench, though in my neck of the woods we’re now in “Sit outside, be broiled alive” season.

  4. I would love and always want satisfying ends for series. For me, most of the time, this also means “happy,” but if something makes sense and it leads to healing or growth for the rest of the book (characters), I can deal with some sadness, too. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my list too!

  5. I love reading books while listening to birds, too. 🥺 It’s giving peace.

Can I just say I love how you construct your words? I aspire to write a well written post as well.

  6. This is a great list. I love the idea of a place to read in the park that isn’t too cold or humid. Definitely good endings for series books. I love series but hate when they leave you hanging forever. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  7. I love the twist you’ve taken on this topic! 😍 I wish for more time for blog hopping too—I always feel like when I finally “catch up”, I’m behind again already. I hope some of these wishes at least come true for you. Great post!

  8. I agree with you about expanding of reading communities. Top Ten Tuesday seems to have no trouble getting participants. But other memes, like the one I host, Friday56, struggle to get ten participants each week. I think the problem is twofold: 1. People want others to see their posts so participate for that, but they in turn don’t turn around and visit others or make comments on the sites they visited, and 2. All of the hosting sites put up guardrails to discourage SPAM but those guardrails often make it very hard to make comments without first commiting your first-born-child.

  9. Great list! I love all of these, but would also especially enjoy more time for blog hopping and more ideas for blog posts 🙂

  10. #6! I need a few hours a day to go say hi to everyone and visit other blogs 😅 Great list 🙂

  11. Great answers! I particularly agree with “Satisfying and logical endings for every series.” There’s Nothing more frustrating!

  12. When I originally saw the topic this week, I almost went this way, Lydia. Then, I didn’t think I would have ten, so switched it up. You have a great list here. My library just cut the number of borrows per month from Hoopla. It used to be 15, now it is only 5. Really takes a chunk out of my library checkouts, especially for audiobooks.

  13. I love all your bookish wishes! I enjoy reading at my local bagel shop! 📚

  14. This is a great approach to take! I have no idea how many ebooks we can borrow, since I normally just borrow paperbacks or audiobooks. I never (thankfully) reach my limit on either of those.

  15. Those are very good bookish wishes! We are likely loosing our great libraries here in Ohio between the Federal gov’t being destroyed and the statehouse in Columbus following them. Such a shame we have EXCELLENT libraries and can borrow from just about any library.

Definitely on the same track this week like you mentioned! As for commenting, you are always upto speed on it from what I have known of you. I am always playing catch up though .. this week is an exception.

  17. Well, for those who spend time with K-12 students, there’s the Second Lady’s National Summer Reading Club. So far all Her Gorgeousness is doing is inviting the kids to list the books they’ve read on a webform, but this is expected to pick up.

L&SR could organize something like that online for adults, if people were interested. With prizes? Hey, iirc most of the prizes Summer Reading Clubs used to give out at the weekly meetings would have been better enjoyed if they’d been virtual. You had to read the most books or design the best bookmark for the whole summer to win cash. Sing-alongs might translate into virtual filks? Movies into classics on Youtube shown at the site? Those “refreshments” should definitely have been virtual. Virtual gumdrops, potato chips, and Kool-Aid anyone?

  18. Not that I am bitter. Not that Mrs. Vance isn’t gorgeous. It’s just that I was typing a high school girl came into McDonald’s with a perfect figure, classic face, apparently flawless dark skin, and even hair that looked overprocessed into something close to Mrs. Vance’s, and I thought, “Why–apart from the celebrity factor–is she famous for her beauty? That child is just as perfect, with none of the expensive help, and only her friends and family will ever know.”

(Child did not buy any McJunkfood. Not sure what that says about her relationship to Miss Manners, but she does know how to preserve what she has. She drove up, used the restroom, and drove on to the school where the boys’ soccer game is about to start.)
