Apologies to Susan @Bloggin’ ’bout Books, but I haven’t visited many exciting bookish places. My books generally come from the public library, and I simply do not have the budget to travel to other countries.
Unless you want to hear stories about me reading encyclopedias from the 1960s at my grandmother’s house when I was a child, I’ll have to tweak this topic a little in order to participate.
Therefore, here are ten bookish places I’d like to visit that are either the settings for famous works or have beautiful libraries or festivals there:
1. The W.E.B. Du Bois Center Library in Ghana
2. The Library of Alexandria in Egypt (If it still existed, of course).
3. Prince Edward Island, Canada
4. The Jane Eyre trail, Peak District
5. The Ake Arts and Book Festival in Nigeria
6. Amsterdam
7. Kyoto
8. Cartagena
9. Buenos Aires
10. Chimurenga Library in South Africa
If I could just zap myself places, I’d definitely want to go to a few of these — particularly Amsterdam and Kyoto. Alas, I hate sitting in airplanes for long distances.

Great list! I’d have loved to visit the Library of Alexandria too… I’ve been to the Peak District but we’d only spent one night there driving up to Scotland, but it was so beautiful. Wished I had explored more cos it’s stunning! The W.E.B. Du Bois Centre Library in Ghana also sounds amazing. 🙂

I didn’t do the prompt today but Prince Edward Island is one bookish place I’d love to visit too! I don’t know a lot about other bookish places so I didn’t have much to contribute to today’s prompt, but seeing everyone’s lists have given me so many ideas I didn’t think about before.
I had the same experience. Some folks had some fantastic ideas this week for sure.

Amsterdam is lovely, as well as having a couple of good bookshops! It was a very reasonable day trip back when I lived in Belgium.. sadly, not so much so now.

I think sometimes I’m the only book blogger who never read the Anne of Green Gables books! I loved the Little House on the Prairie books, but never read Heidi or Anne of Green Gables. I wasn’t a “tomboy” — probably an obsolete term now! — but I secretly wanted to be one!

Prince Edward Island is high on my list of places I want to visit! I’d want to go anyway, but especially since reading the Anne of Green Gables books and Emily of New Moon in recent years!
They make that island sound so lovely.
PEI has been on my bookish travel bucket list for a long time. One of these days, I WILL get there. My father’s ancestral roots are in Nova Scotia (via Scotland), so that’s another reason I want to visit the province. I need to just book a trip already!

This would be a wonderful world trip, and even travel to the past. I’ve actually been to PEI to see the Green Gables House and the play at the Charlottetown Theatre when my daughter was only 10. It is a great memory.
