Top Ten Tuesday: Books that Feature Travel

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Travelling isn’t something I’m generally that into due to a few health problems I have that can make things  like keeping myself fed, well-rested, and pain-free more complicated than they probably are for most people.

Aerial shot of a plane wing as the plane flies over rock terrrain. You can see mountains below that look small and some fluffy, white clouds in the sky. I do like reading about travelling, though, so here are ten books about that.

1. Spirited Waters: Soloing South Through the Inside Passage by Jennifer Hahn

2. Looking for Transwonderland: Travels in Nigeria by Noo Saro-Wiwa

3. Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie: The Oregon Trail Diary of Hattie Campbell by Kristiana Gregory

4. Llamas & Empanadas: 5000 Kilometres by Bicycle Through South America by Eleanor Meecham

5. The Far Traveler: Voyages of a Viking Woman by Nancy Marie Brown

6. The Crystal Desert: Summers in Antarctica by David G. Campbell

7. The Last Man on the Moon: Astronaut Eugene Cernan and America’s Race in Space by Eugene Cernan

8. Kalashnikovs and Zombie Cucumbers: Travels in Mozambique by Nick Middleton

9. Big in China: My Unlikely Adventures Raising a Family, Playing the Blues, and Becoming a Star in Beijing by Alan Paul

10. Hot Sour Salty Sweet: A Culinary Journey Through Southeast Asia by Jeffrey Alford

How do you all feel about traveling?

  1. Armchair traveling is the best way to go when actual traveling proves to be a little bit more work! I’m super intrigued by Hot Sour Salty Sweet, I love to cook and that looks right up my alley! My TTT: https://www.literacious.com/2025/05/20/top-ten-tuesday-middle-grade-books-with-travel/

  2. Thank goodness for armchair traveling! As much as I love visiting new places, I don’t always love the process of actually getting there since I’m prone to motion sickness. Visiting in books is a great alternative 🙂

    Happy TTT!

  3. I love armchair travel, and I think of myself as well-read in armchair travel books, and yet I have read none of these. I must look for some of these.

  4. Ooh I read a bicycle travel one recently and can’t remember details but those experiences must be awesome! Great list, thanks for checking out mine too

I haven’t read any of these, but The Far Traveler sounds interesting! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  6. There are some places like India and Africa I’ve yet to read a travel book about — though “Through Thick Air” touched on one place in Africa, I think. (That was about a guy cycling to the lowest terrestrial points on every continent. Underwhelming.)

  7. Some of these have such interesting titles! Kalashnikovs and Zombie Cucumbers!? Llamas & Empanadas?! Hot Sour Salty Sweet? I love it! 😍

  8. Joanne @ Portobello Book Blog

Haven’t read any of these but what an excellent selection. It’s amazing where reading can take you!

  9. I’ve recently discovered a love of reading a good travelogue, so I’m going to have to check out a lot of the books on your list to see what ones I can get form my library. Thanks for sharing them!

I love traveling in person, but one of the things that I like better about travel-by-book is that I can see a lot of the sights that require a more athletic lifestyle than the one I lead.

  10. I don’t travel much just because, well, I don’t. (Plus I’m not always fond of the actual “travel” part until getting to the destination, flying or road-tripping.) BUT in my head I have a list of places I’d LOVE to see. So, who knows, maybe one of these days I’ll just decide to book a trip somewhere and get started. In the meantime, it’s nice we can find travel in lots of books – and to SO many places! Thanks for visiting my list today!

  11. I love a cruise because you have this sense of having arrived before you get anywhere! Day trips to local destinations can be fun as well! Great list today!

  12. Armchair travelling can be so fun, and especially to some places, like the moon or Antarctica, that most people will only ever be able to discover though books.

  13. Thank goodness for armchair traveling or I might never get to travel at all. LOL. Great list, Lydia! Happy Tuesday!
