Top Ten Tuesday: LGBTQ Summer Fiction

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Drawing of a heart that has ridges and swirls in it like a fingerprint. The heart has all of the colours of the Pride flag in it with red at the bottom and then going counter-clockwise for the rest of the of the shades. Happy Pride Month to everyone who is celebrating it! Here are ten LGBTQ+ books with summer settings or themes that I am curious to check out once the humidity and heat rises and it’s too hot to spend much time outdoors.

We’ll see how many of them I get around to.

If you’ve read any of them, I’d love to hear your thoughts on their characters and plots!

1. Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan

2. The Summer of Jordi Perez by Amy Spalding

3. Kings of B’more by R. Eric Thomas

4. Donut Summer by Anita Kelly

5. The Dead of Summer by Ryan La Sala

6. The Last True Poets of the Sea by Julia Drake

7. Going Bicoastal by Dahlia Adler

8. This Pact Is Not Ours by Zachary Sergi

9. If We Were a Movie by Zakiya N. Jamal

10. Get Real, Chloe Torres by Crystal Maldonado

Do you also tend to save up books to read for when the weather becomes less pleasant for outdoor adventures?

  1. Great list, Lydia! Happy Tuesday and Happy Summer to you! ☀️

  2. The Last True Poets of the Sea sounds really good.

  3. Excellent list for Pride Month:-) I’ve heard lots of good things about Ryan La Sala’s books but haven’t read any. I hope you get to a bunch of these!

  4. Hope the summer goes well for you! My reading definitely goes up during the summer because in the Gulf Coast south it’s too hot and humid to be outside much.

  5. I am not a huge seasonal reader, but some books do beg to be read during certain seasons. Have a great week!

  6. Happy Pride! 🌈 If We Were A Movie is on my TBR as well and it sounds like the perfect summer read! 😍 I hope you enjoy all the books you get to!

  7. Great idea for Pride month 🙂 love to see it! Hot Dog Girl sounds really fun and perfect for summer.

  8. I feel like summer reading for me is more about seasonal reads, so lots of cute and fun books, or books that travel to the beach, etc. As for saving up books, well, I already have too much “unread” titles on my shelf. So thankfully, it’ll be a while before I run out. 😉 Thanks so much for visiting my list today – hope you enjoy these all!

  9. Great list! Hoping you find some 5-stars in here. ❤️

  10. Going Bicostal and Hot Dog Girl were so cute!

  11. They sound good. I need to read more LGBTQ+ books. The ones that I have read in the past were good.

    Have a great week!

  12. Perfect topic for this month!

  13. Great list, and Happy Pride!

I haven’t read Hot Dog Girl yet, but it’s been on my TBR for ages. It sounds really cute.

  14. Great list! I have The Summer of Jordi Perez on my TBR, and I’ll have to check out the rest of this list for sure!

  15. Great list! I hope you get a chance to read them.

  16. I haven’t read any of these but I love Eric R. Thomas, so I’ll be looking at that one. Great theme!

  17. I really liked The Summer of Jordi Perez. I hope you enjoy it too. Thanks for visiting my blog earlier!

  18. Funny that we will both be reading indoors because of the weather – just for opposite reasons!

I do hope to read a couple of books for Pride Month!

  19. Great choice for a topic, Lydia. I haven’t read any of these, but the last two sound amazing. Thanks for sharing.

  20. People always talk about how they love to read by the pool, but it’s WAY too hot for that here in Arizona, at least in the summer. I would die (or at least get very, VERY sunburned). When it’s crazy hot outside, I do all my reading indoors with the a/c blasting and the ceiling fan on high!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  21. I was just looking to see if my library carries If We Were a Movie. I want to pick it up this month as well. Hope you get a chance to crack some of these open this summer!

  22. Thank you so much for this excellent list!

  23. Happy summer! I love that you chose to list a bunch of books in honor of Pride Month. Going Bicoastal was such a good read, and I really loved it. Hopefully it you aren’t anywhere near the fires, and you get to enjoy the outdoors this summer.

  24. The Last True Poets sounds interesting…
