Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl
The original theme for this week was “My Unpopular Bookish Opinions,” but I’ve decided to veer in a different direction instead.
Here are some books that have four or five star ratings on Goodreads but who are not well known. As I haven’t read any of them yet, I can’t give an official recommendation. They simply look interesting to me.
If you’ve read any of them or if you have another title to share that’s highly regarded but not well known, I’d love to hear your thoughts. There’s nothing like finding a gem of a book that most people haven’t heard about yet.
1. One Hundred Stingers: A novel of the air war over the Ho Chi Minh Trail by Peter Adams Young
2. Luna & the Magical Piano by Kaia Verheyen
3. The Irritated Genie: an essay on the Haitian Revolution by Jacob H. Carruthers
4. The Wonderful World of Mathematics by Lancelot Hogben
5. Under The Great Elm: A Life of Luck & Wonder by Rich Flanders
6. Mourning Ploughs the Winter by Guy Jean
7. Little Paws and Lion Hearts by Leah Haney
8. Raising Jess: A Story of Hope by Vickie Rubin
9. Please Don’t Tell Cooper He’s a Dog by Michelle Lander Feinberg
10. Speranza’s Sweater: One Child’s Journey Through Foster Care and Adoption by Marcy Pusey
I haven’t heard of any of these! It’s always great to feature books that seem like (or we know they are) they could be good reads but aren’t popular. Just doing our bookish part to give books deserving shoutouts. 🙂 Hope you enjoy these.
Thanks. 🙂
I really like this take on the weeks topic. I haven’t heard of any of them I don’t think, but the titles sound very inspirational.
Thank you. 🙂
I haven’t read any of these yet, but it’s one of the best feelings to discover a hidden gem of a book!
For sure. 🙂
Haven’t heard of any of these but looks like you found some hidden gems!
Thanks!
Haven’t heard of any of these, but they don’t sound appealing to me either.
🙂
I haven’t read any of these. It’s so interesting how widely opinions on books can vary. A good thing for authors that we all enjoy different things!
For sure. 🙂
Great post! I haven’t heard of any of these.
They seem to not be well known at all.
I haven’t heard of any of these! Please Don’t Tell Cooper He’s A Dog is intriguing though!!
😀
I guess it’s not really a surprise, but I haven’t heard of any of these books. If you pick them up, I hope you like them! It’s always nice to find a good hidden gem.
Thank you. Yeah, I wasn’t really expecting anyone to know of them.
Many of these are new to me, Lydia. Love how you have given these books extra exposure. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome!
I love an under the radar, hidden gem! Three I think of are The Day the World Came to Town (nf) and Love and Lavender and The Gilded Years.
Ooh, thanks for sharing!
I haven’t read any of these either. Hope you enjoy them!
Thanks. 🙂
I haven’t heard of any of these books, but that’s why I love books. We all see different books, enjoy them, and then share them with the world.

Absolutely. 🙂
What a cute title: Please Don’t tell Cooper He’s a Dog.
I’m afraid I have not heard of any of these books before but if I see them now I will take a look based on your recommendation.
I’m off topic today: https://headfullofbooks.blogspot.com/2025/04/ttt-excerpts-from-new-to-me-poems-i-like.html
Cool. Enjoy!
Some of my most favorite books are severely underrated! I try to talk about them as much as possible in the hopes that more people will find their way to them. Thank you for sharing these!
You’re welcome. 🙂
Interesting list. I haven’t read any of these but I love finding hidden gems too.
Cool!
I haven’t heard of any of these. I’ll have to check a few of these out.
Enjoy!
I am not familiar with any of these either but I love the twist on the prompt!
I’m like everyone else here and haven’t heard of these, but I don’t read a lot of nonfiction either! Thanks for dropping by earlier!
