Thank you to Rissa for submitting this week’s topic.
I used this Wikipedia page to compile my list of mainstream popular authors that I still have not read.
These authors have not published anything that appeals to my taste in books so far, but obviously there are a lot of people out there who do love their work!
If they do ever happen to publish stories that fit my reading interests, I’d be happy to give them a try.
1. Tom Clancy
2. Dean Koontz
3. James Patterson
4. Barbara Cartland
5. Harold Robbins
6. Georges Simenon
7. Eiichiro Oda
8. Akira Toriyama
9. Corín Tellado
10. Masashi Kishimoto
I’ve read one book by Georges Simenon, and I did that for Paris in July. I won’t be reading another—just not my cuppa, you know? But I did love the tv series with Rowan Atkinson.
Good to know!
I have read just one from your list – Georges Simenon. It was La Pipe de Maigret which I read for French class in High School. It was torture!
Thanks for sharing. I’m sorry you didn’t like it at all.
Tom Clancy’s dead, so I wouldn’t count on him publishing anything that’s not a technical/military thriller these days… XD
I did not know that. Thanks for sharing.
The funny thing is, he’s dead but still publishing because the estate authorized some ghostwriter to write under his name. Not quite like Asimov’s estate releasing new collections of his short stories – but then Asimov’s entire aim was to publish more books than anyone else, so no doubt he’d be pleased!
Interesting!
I read George Simenon and I actually liked it, I like noir a lot. It was several years ago, so I really van’t recall the plot story, but I would love to read again the Commissaire Maigret investigations.
Thanks for sharing. That’s cool. I’ve dabbled in noir but haven’t read much of it.
I think I read a Dean Koontz years ago, but that’s all I’ve tried here.
Cool.
One was enough for me. Very dark/disturbing.
Good to know.
I’ve read Dean Koontz and James Patterson and wasn’t too impressed. I haven’t even heard of some of the others. I guess I don’t read a lot of popular authors!
That was my thought, too!
I don’t know what counts as a popular author. Or maybe your tastes and mine are outside of the mainstream. I have no idea. 🙂
Patterson is the only one I’ve read off your list. I used to like his books.
Cool!
I should have added James Patterson and Dean Koontz, I am not interested in their books. Have a great day!
You, too. 🙂
I’ve read the first three on your list, but not any of the others. I keep saying I’d like to read Simenon, I just haven’t yet. So many books, so little time!
Exactly. 🙂 Hope you like it.
I’m also a non-reader of James Patterson and never will be.
Cool.
I’ve heard of the first three authors, and probably could have added them to my list as well. I wouldn’t say none of their stories would sound interesting, but I guess I just don’t feel like I “need” to try their books. I already have so many to enjoy! 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my website today, Lydia.
You’re welcome, Rissi. I’m glad you get it.
I read Clancy’s Hunt For Red October because I enjoyed the movie so much, but the book was not my style so I won’t be returning to his books. I do eventually want to read Koontz’s Odd Thomas, again because I watched the adaptation of it and enjoyed it. But I’m not sure when I’ll actually get around to it…
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday post for this week.
Good to know! I hope you like Odd Thomas.
I read Dolly Parton’s Patterson book cause I love Dolly! I also read the huge Executive Orders by Clancy when it came out and people still had the attention span for huge books! It was scary as he–
Cool. 🙂
The only one from the list that I have read is James Patterson, and it was one of his “bookshot” novels that are under 100 pages.
Interesting!
I haven’t heard about 3/4 of them and haven’t read any of them.

Cool. 🙂
I’ve not read any of these, however I am currently reading my first James Patterson and enjoying it. It’s called Holmes, Marple and Poe and they are a Private Investigating team.
Have a great week!

Good for you! I hope you have a nice week, too.
I read a lot of Dean Koontz about 30 years ago. His earlier work was good.
Cool. 🙂
James Patterson has many books, but they have never caught my attention
Interesting!
Patterson comes to mind for me as well. I guess when I think of popular authors there are some that are quite popular in our community, but then there are some BIG authors lol.
That’s a good point!
I’ve only read one Dean Koontz book years ago, but I did like it!
Glad to hear it. 🙂
I’ve read books by Clancy, Koontz and Patterson, but I haven’t read any of the other seven authors on your list.
Cool. 🙂
I haven’t read most of these but I went through a huge Dean Koontz phase in high school where I read pretty much everything he’d ever written! That’s um… a long time ago now so I’m sure he’s written so much more since then.
That’s neat. 🙂
I haven’t read any on your list, except for one by Patterson that he co-authored. I want to read more by him. Great list and thanks for visiting my TTT!
You’re welcome. I hope you like the rest of Patterson’s work.
Tom Clancy is a super popular author that I have yet to want to read.
I do like the TV series Jack Ryan based on Clancy’s books, maybe I should start there.
I didn’t know there was a TV series based on his books. That could be a great place to start.
The only author on here that really appeals to me is Koontz and his books are hit or miss for me. I read him a lot in high school. His newer books haven’t been as compelling to me, unfortunately. Interesting how our reading tastes change over time, isn’t it?
Happy TTT!

Yes, it sure is. There are so many authors I’ve gained or lost interest in over the years. 🙂
I’ve read the first 3 on your list! I doubt I’d go back to them again, but for a while, I really enjoyed Tom Clancy books and a few of Dean Koontz’s too!
Cool!
When I first started reading more than YA in college.. I did that years top 50 NY bestsellers list. I had to read Clancy, Patterson, and Koontz. I did not enjoy any of the three! lol
Good for you for giving them a try, though. It’s nice to try new things I think. 🙂
I haven’t read any of them, either. And I doubt, I ever will. I believe there are no authors we absolutely “have to” read, so if a book doesn*t talk to me, I don’t care how popular it is.
I totally hear you there. 🙂
I haven’t read any of these authors yet either, and they don’t really appeal to my current reading tastes either so unless they release something more up my alley in the future, I probably won’t read them either 🙂
Cool. 🙂
I definitely can’t see myself picking up the first three authors on your list, so I am with you there.
I’m glad you get it.
I’ve heard of a few of these but none who appeal to my personal tastes either!
Cool. 🙂
Dunno a lot of them but I recognize and can recommend Eichiiro Oda, as I’m indeed a fan myself 😂
Great post!

Oh, cool!
I’ve only read Koontz from your list. I was a fan of his Moonlight Bay and Odd Thomoas series’, which are horror, and his Jane Hawk series, which is more thriller. Happy reading, Lydia!
Good to know. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
This is a great list. I haven’t even heard of half of these authors, but I haven’t read any of the authors that I have heard of. Isn’t it funny how we get caught up in our niches and love to seek out under-recognized authors?
Yes, it sure is! The world of books is so much bigger than most of us think.
I have read James Patterson among these authors – but only when he wrote along with other authors (and the ones I read were all middle-school reads..)..
Wanted to try reading Tom Clancy – mostly because i loved a couple of the movies his books are based on.. but not yet.
thanks for visiting
I hope you like them. And you’re welcome.
Honestly, I’m proud of everyone who hasn’t read James “Bane of Librarians For Hogging Shelf Space” Patterson. (he got me on a technicality with that co-author claim, though at least I enjoyed Run Rose Run) I’m glad he gets people to read if they wouldn’t otherwise, but that’s it.
Haven’t read standard Dean Koontz either — but I couldn’t put him on my list because I HAVE read his lovely pet memoir/ode to Trixie, “A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog.” Highly recommended if you like that kind of book.
Heh, thanks.
A Big Little Life sounds amazing. Thanks for the recommendation. Yeah, I have to read that one.
