This will be a short list this week as I’ve more or less lost interest in reading series. Too many of them have either ended unsatisfactorily for my tastes or never been completed at all.
With that being said, here are a few exceptions to that rule for me that I still need to finish:

1. The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) by Philip Pullman

2. Children of Time (Children of Time, #1) by Adrian Tchaikovsky

3. Semiosis (Semiosis, #1) by Sue Burke
If you know of any speculative fiction series published in the last 10 years or so that were excellent from beginning to end, please share!
I’d like to read The Children of Time series.
Thanks for sharing your #TTT
You’re welcome!
I haven’t read any of these so I hope you make progress on some of them soon! 😀
Here’s the link to my TTT if you’d like to check it out – https://bookishlyjessie.blog/2026/08/18/top-ten-tuesday-𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤-𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬-𝐈-𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭/
Thank you!
I think I’d looked at Burke last year when I was planning for SF month..
I believe I recall you mentioning that!
I really need to continue with the Children of Time series. I read the first one last year, and intend to continue, but just need to find the right moment when I”m in the mood for the next book. I loved the Dark Materials series, but never read the final book in the follow-up trilogy, and I’m not sure that I will.
Goodness, I didn’t even know there was a follow-up trilogy. 😂 Thanks for the heads up.
And, yeah, finding the right moment can be so important.
Children of Time is a popular one today! I’ve seen it on a couple of lists 🙂 I’ve been curious about it and think I might add it to my TBR, lol. I hope you enjoy these whenever you continue them!
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by that! Thank you.
I’ve not read any of these, but I hope you’re able to catch up on them soon.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Thank you. 🙂
I understand your frustration with series. I used to hate them because I’m pretty terrible at finishing them (or I was(. I always want to read The Golden Compass as I child but never got around to it.
I’m glad you get it!
I get this feeling, Lydia. I feel like there is often such a gap that I have lost interest in, forgotten about, or have moved on to another favorite genre or type of fiction. 🙂 Thanks for visiting my list, and I hope you enjoy the series you still want to read!
You’re welcome, friend. I’m glad you understand.
Series can be so hard! Typically I love the first and third books and the second is a dud. There are some series that go on way too long, and others that I have read (like a duology) that could have gone longer. I hope you enjoy these when you do get an opportunity to read them.
That’s so relatable. Thank you.
I can understand your feelings about series. I do enjoy them, but I never seem to be able to read an entire series. Mainly because there are just so many other books that I want to read. It’s hard to keep up especially with so many of them being ongoing. I hope you enjoy the ones you are still reading.
For sure! And thanks.
Interesting. I recall watching a movie version of the Golden Compass several [many] when my kids were young.
I liked that film!
I read Books 1 and 2 of the Children of Time series and really enjoyed them but lost momentum on book 3. I also really liked His Dark Materials but it’s been a while since I read them so I don’t remember much. I hope you enjoy them though!
Thank you. Fingers crossed.
I read The Golden Compass years ago, and forgot it was part of a series. That might be a reread for me, then the rest of the series. I do give up on a series when it get to be too similar with every book.
Same here!
Nice list!
Thanks.
I hope you are able to finish these series.
Here’s my TTT for the week: https://readbakecreate.com/ten-series-i-hope-to-catch-up-on-in-2026/
Thank you!
I need to finish the Adrian Tchaikovsky series, too! But I think I need to reread the first one by this point…
That’s probably a good idea!
Hope you get all caught up on these soon!
Thank you.
That Semiosis cover is kind of tantalizing. I hope you get to read these series soon!
It was a great story!
I already have Children of Time on my TBR list (although it wasn’t mentioned in the TTT post). I added Semiosis.
Enjoy!
I don’t read a lot of series these days. I do Blog Tour and Netgalley books mainly.
Have a great week!
That makes sense. 🙂
Good luck with these! I haven’t read any of them.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Thank you!
Book one was released over 10 years ago now, but I adored the Imperial Radch trilogy (starting with Ancillary Justice).
Happy reading!
Cool! I’m looking it up now.
I haven’t read any of these, but I hope you’ll get to catch up on them soon! I completely understand your frustration regarding series that fizzle out towards the end. Sometimes it’s hard to find a standalone book that doesn’t do that, let alone a series.
Enjoy your week!
Thank you, and for sure.
I loved His Dark Materials when I was a teen, so good!! Although I don’t necessarily feel the need to read his other series set in the same world for some reason. Children of Time is one I’d love to start!!
May you enjoy it. 🙂
