Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl
My answers to this week’s prompt might be a little unorthodox.
I have enough bookmarks, ereaders, tea mugs, and cozy socks to last for many years to come.
I do not have enough chocolate to nibble on while reading, but that’s because I have a sweet tooth and chocolate is hard to resist. Perhaps some of you who do not like sweets so much have never had this problem. Ha!
These are the bookish things I wish I had.
A Spare Room to Turn Into a Personal Library.
There are many things I love about living in a cozy apartment in a city, but one of the few downsides of it is that housing here in Toronto is too expensive to devote an entire room to reading. If only that were different!
A Big, Comfortable Couch
I want to gently flop over the sides of the couch and find every position comfortable while still leaving space for someone else to sit there, too.
Yes, sometimes I’d probably sit on the “proper” way, too. But not every time.
Peace and Quiet
I want a few hours of peace and quiet in which to read.
It’s okay if a truck rumbles by or a bird sings outside of my window, but I would rather not have conversation, music, blaring horns, or anything else that might be distracting.
Quiet reading sessions are the best if you ask me.
A Leash and Soft Place to Sleep for My (Hypothetical) Dog or Dogs
Yes, I know that’s worded a little oddly, but let me explain. I don’t think of pets as objects to be owned. They’re members of a family instead.
If I weren’t allergic to dogs and if my home were large enough to accommodate one, I’d also want to have a canine companion or two. (Let’s also assume that my spouse agrees to this plan!)
Ideally, they’d sleep or play quietly for a couple of hours while I read and then let me know that they were ready to go for a walk.
There’s something about taking a walk that makes reading even better. It gives you time to think about what you’ve read and wonder what might happen next in the story.
Dogs are also good listeners from what I’ve surmised from people who can live with them, so I’d probably talk to them while we exercised together.
It wouldn’t matter to me what the dog looked like. I simply included the picture above because the dog in it looked so peaceful.
Peace and quiet! Haha, such a necessity. 😊 I’m allergic to both dogs and cats. My son is even worse and get asthma.
Heh, thanks! Sorry to hear about your and your son’s allergies. It sounds like we’re all in similar boats.
Ahh it looks so soft and cozy. I could really use my own personal library.
Heh, thanks!
A spare room and peace and quiet would be awesome
🙂
Peace and quiet and a personal library…the dream.
I have the dog. He lies with me sometimes but he’s rarely quiet. More often than not he distracts from reading so you win some, you lose some.
Heh, that’s good to know! I’m sure every dog is different in that regard. 😀
I love this xD But let me tell you… now that I have a puppy in my life, reading time has been wayyyy harder to come by! Audiobooks aren’t for me, so I’ve been heavy on podcasts while entertaining and taking care of pup. I certainly do appreciate reading time more when I get it though!
Apparently not all dogs are as calm as I imagine them to be. LOL!
I hope you’re having a lot of fun with your new puppy, though.
Now that I think of it, I would love to have a big, cozy reading chair. Great list!
Thanks. 🙂
Yes, a big, cosy reading chair that I can sink into and never emerge from, please! 😂 My dream is also to have a room that I can make into my personal library (maybe with lots of fluffy throw rugs and cushions on the floor that I can just collapse down on while perusing my shelves… Ah, a girl can dream! 🥹
That sounds wonderful!
Peace and Quiet!
🙂
Great list Lydia. I miss my canine companion who used to curl up between my feet on the recliner while I read. With traveling now, it is just not workable. I get the cost of living in Toronto, but a girl can dream.
I hear you there!
Great twist on the topic.
Thank you.
These are all great! I would love a room to turn into my own personal library, too. That’s where the big comfy couch (or armchairs, I like both) would go.
I did a quote post for TTT: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2022/04/19/top-ten-tuesday-more-bookish-quotes/
Nice!
You can never have too much chocolate when reading! It’s list worthy for sure!
🙂
I keep telling my girls that whoever moves out first had better make sure they’re not coming back home because their bedroom will become my library!
Your pets are family so they absolutely should have a comfy spot beside you to nap!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Heh, i love that story.
I love this week’s spin on the prompt! There’s nothing better than sprawling out on a comfy couch with my dogs, even if they climb on me and demand attention, since I also view them as family members. And who among us doesn’t wish for a whole room to turn into a library?
Absolutely!
A spare room just for a library-YES! That would be sooooo awesome!
🙂
I love your spin on this week’s prompt. Me too I wish I had an extra room so I can set up a library… And more time to read. And of course, chocolate 😆😉
Thank you!
Yes to all of these! And you’re so right, taking a walk after reading is the best.
Exactly. And thanks.
Even though your list is a bit unorthodox as you said, I love it. I think it’s such a fantastic list and embodies what most readers really want/need.
Thank you very much!
Oh, I’d love a personal library too!
🙂
I love the couch I have, but if only it were just a little longer. 🙂
Couch length is so important for sure!
I would a room where I could devote it solely to books. It would be amazing. I’m so sorry you are allergic to dogs. My pup is my constant companion and I could not ask for a better one. I hope one day science can solve this issue because everyone deserves to have such a loyal companion.
Thank you. My fingers are crossed that someday we’ll have a cure for allergies!
A personal library is every bookworm’s dream!
🙂
Personal library!
I know, right? 🙂
More chocolate and a furry reading buddy are perfect items to have on a wish list!

Heh, thanks!
Great list! Absolutely agree with you on pets – they are totally family. I would so love to have a few cats and dogs but my partner’s allergic so that’s a no-go unfortunately for me too. 🙂
Thank you. And what a shame. I wish your partner could have a pet or two!
A personal library is absolutely my dream; although I’d also design my home to have at least one bookshelf in every single room…
That sounds amazing!
My pup is a great mix of absolutely crazy energy and also an amazing cuddlebug, so I’ve got the best of both worlds and it is pretty awesome!
Aww, that’s wonderful!
A room just for reading sounds magical. I’ve always wanted a bookshelf to act as a secret passage. And there used to be this chair my parents had that was the most comfortable reading chair in the world. Until the dog basically ate it. So careful what you wish for on the canine front 😉
Oh, that is too funny. I hope their dog was okay.
Nice wishes that we can all agree with, I think.
There are so many bookish items I’d love that I posted about the bookish merchandise I already own on my TTT this week.
Thank you!
Love this list! I want all those things as well.
Thanks. 🙂
Yes, I would love to have a room as my personal library! I very much miss having a canine companion, though he was never very much involved in my reading. All the same, would love to have another dog one day. We have a cat, but he tends to interrupt if I read or do anything near him when he wants attention, so he’s more distracting than helpful to the reading process!
Nice list! I agree about dogs and cats, they are definitely part of the family.
You’re right – there are definitely bookish “things” I need more than mugs, t-shirts, and bookmarks. Peace and quiet for reading is always nice, although I actually get a lot of that while my kids are in school. I’ve tried the dog and it didn’t work out for our family. The pup was too wild for our suburban space – he needed (and got) a big ranch in the country to enjoy.
Happy TTT!

I’m glad you have quiet time during the day and that your old dog found a home better suited to his needs.
A spare room and some custom shelves would be the dream!
🙂
Such a great list. I was so glad that I did have a spare room in my house to turn into a library/reading room for myself so I definitely relate to that item on your list. Oh and the peace and quiet too!
Thank you. And good for you!
