Other than regularly looking away from tv shows and films just before something important happens, I am every cat’s best friend. They would like nothing more than to follow me around and go on feline-friendly adventures while I would like nothing more than for them to pick a new human to bond with.
No, I do not hate cats. In fact, I’d happily share my home with a few of them if it were possible.
This is an utterly useless talent because I am terribly allergic to cats and can’t even stand near them without coughing and wheezing, much less give them the affection they desire.
I suspect that they love me so much because I do my best to ignore them. While other people might squeal and rush after kitty, I keep a respectful distance.
According to cat logic, of course, this means that I am a well-mannered human and should be rewarded with a cuddle.
I’m very allergic to cats as well, Lydia and yet they follow me like I’ve got tuna in my pockets.

Cats do love people who are trying to ignore them. They like being ignored.
Cats find the smell of lavender to be off-putting, since it is toxic to them.

Sorry about your allergy (yours, too, George!) I’ve noticed that cats do tend to gravitate to people who pay them no attention… I think it’s a challenge. LOL

Animals and kids gravitate to my husband, so I guess it’s good he isn’t allergic.

I’ve read that people trying to avoid cats tend to raise their shoulders, which cats tend to read (based on their different anatomy) as expressing “I’m so relaxed I’m almost asleep. Anyone who wants to cuddle, over here!”
They don’t like lavender, and they don’t like Listerine. (They don’t like a lot of the odors humans have, but if they like you they may decide to wash the odors of soap, onion, sweat, and even toxic stuff like ink, off your skin, as an act of love.)
