A wooden table set for a dinner party. I chose all of these characters for one reason: they’d be fabulous dinner companions. Any one of them would be filled with interesting anecdotes about their lives.

Putting all of them together at the same table would make me incredibly happy.

Captain Sisko from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Sherlock Holmes.

Atticus Finch, the lawyer and late-in-life father from Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

Starr Carter from Angie Thomas’ The Hate U Give.

Luna Lovegood from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.

Willow Rosenberg and Tara McLay from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

What I predict they’d talk about (before the conversation bounced into unpredictable topics):

  • Magic
  • Civil rights and social justice
  • Books
  • The weirdest things they’ve seen
  • Baseball
  • Raising kids as single parents, LGBT+ people, etc.
  • Reading body language
  • Deep space travel
  • Aliens

  1. What a cool idea! I’m on board with Willow and Tara as guests!

  2. OK I’ll ask. Why Luna???

  3. You probably predict right. I’ll bet it’s a great conversation!

  4. Mary Morgan

Wow! I love your guest list and topics of conversation.

  5. Wow good job. Love your guest list and conversation topics. Can I come? Bet you pick up a lot of magic tips. LOL Thanks so much for sharing. Here’s mine. https://www.tenastetler.com/blog-challenge-characters-invite-to-a-dinner-party/

  6. Love these… great job! Thanks for coming by earlier.

  7. My goodness. That’s quite a mix, but it would be an absolutely fascinating conversation. Plus, you could all take a jaunt out to Deep Space Nine after dinner!

    My list is here.

  8. That could be a lot of fun! I’d always be a bit nervous to invite Sherlock Holmes to anything, though. I don’t know if I’d want to know what he’d say about me…

  9. Ooo, I love this topic! I would also love to have Captain Sisko and Luna Lovegood as dinner guests! I bet Captain Sisko would help me cook 🙂

  10. Love your list, Lydia! I was going to choose Sherlock too but he can be a grumpy thing sometimes, not to mention rude. But what a mind!

  11. Good choices! I did consider Sherlock Holmes but I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t bother to show up – though I’d love to meet him.

  12. Ooh, great choices, Lydia! I would be curious to know what dinner with Atticus Finch would be like, especially considering the times now 😂 I’d also absolutely love to have dinner with Starr and Luna! I think they’d get on real well, too?! Haha I’m honestly always so terrible at answering this question but I love reading peoples’ answers!

  13. I absolutely love your guests! Before I went rogue and went on a tangent over on my post, Sherlock was on my list and Hermione Granger. Luna is such a great character, too. Loved her!

  14. I love this list too. I remember when Harry took Luna to Slughorn’s party. She was absolutely brilliant. The wonderful thing about asking Sisko and Finch is that they would make sure everyone was treated with courtesy and would put the entire table at ease.

Those who have (understandable) reservations about asking Sherlock Holmes might want to consider Mary Russell instead (https://laurierking.com/books/russell-holmes/).

  15. I would love to have a conversation with Sherlock Holmes. It would probably be slightly terrifying because he would notice things I would hope other people don’t but it would be fascinating nonetheless.
