Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Strange or Useless Talent I Have

Hosted by Long and Short Reviews.

Two orange cats standing and sitting on pavement surrounded by fallen leavesMy strangest talent by far is how attracted cats are to me.

Why is this strange? Well, I’m horribly allergic to them. Even hugging someone who has cat dander on their clothing will make me start wheezing and coughing. The more time I spend inhaling that dander, the worse my breathing becomes.

Therefore, I do everything I possibly can do to stay away from cats.

Yet I’ve had multiple experiences with cats who avoid the people who actually want to interact with them and move towards the one person who wants to stay as far away from them as possible.

I’ve actually started staring at cats on purpose on the rare occasion I meet them to see if a little eye contact will gently encourage them to pick someone else as their new best friend.

They’re beautiful creatures, and I’d pet them if I could. But being able to breathe is more important to me for reasons I’m sure you all can understand.

If only there were a way to somehow cash in on this strange superpower of mine!

  1. Lydia,

I have both the allergy and that tragic attraction for cats as well! It is a TERRIBLE combination. I suppose we could form a company to hire ourselves out to help find lost felines. All we’s have to do is forgo our antihistamines and leave our tissues at home, walk in the neighbourhoods where the cats go missing, and zing! Every cat within miles would flock to us.

We could probably make a fortune, but we’d have to spend it all on visits to the ER.

Fortunately, you have plenty of other gifts, even if they are mundanely normal or even (gasp!) useful.

    • Oh, my! I don’t know if I should say “congratulation” or “I’m sorry” to the news that you have this same superpower. LOL.

But we could definitely find lost cats together easily.

And thank you for your kind words.

  2. I tend to gravitate to the cats and dogs instead of people. Lol. I like the talent, even if it does make you sick. Hugs.

  3. That would be a pretty cool power if it weren’t trying to kill you.

  4. I’m more of a dog person myself and for some reason, cats don’t actually like me tooπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ It’s like we have an unspoken agreement to stay away from each other 😁

  5. Cats are contrarian. I’m sure it’s a problem you wished yo didn’t have. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/

  6. Oh dear that’s bad. But cats do have a way of know who really doesn’t want them near. LOL Thanks for sharing. Here’s mine. https://www.tenastetler.com/lsrs-wednesdays-blog-challenge-11-13-2019-a-strange-or-useless-talent-i-have/

  7. I think this is one of those things cats do to annoy people. My husband has two friends who are both allergic to cats. And every time they’d come over, no matter which cat we had at the time, they’d make a beeline for these guys. Little furry jerks!

On the bright side, my husband’s friend, Brad, noticed that his reactions to our cats was much less severe once we started feeding them grain free cat food. Apparently the grain in most cat foods causes them to produce more dander.

I am sorry though, I love my kitties and I don’t know if I could life my life without some kind of furry critter in the house.

    My post

    • Heh, could be!

I’m glad that Brad has seen a reduction in his allergic reaction to your cats. I had no idea feeding them that diet could help.

      Enjoy your kitties. πŸ™‚

  8. It’s pretty well known that cats can be real jerks. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were glomming on to you because you’re not worshipping them like everyone else. πŸ˜‰

Plus, cats can be territorial. They probably don’t smell an animal’s scent on you and want any OTHER animals to know that you belong to them. Even if you don’t.

Again, cats can be jerks. πŸ˜€

  9. Awww I’m sorry you are allergic to cats!! I have the same talent as you and cats seem to love me haha even if they are usually anti social. But I love them back and I am lucky enough not to be allergic.

  10. Well, you certainly wouldn’t want to come to my house, we have too many. Though, my daughter’s BF is also allergic, but he takes lots of antihistamines to combat it. Not that it works for everyone.

  11. I’m quite scared of dogs and also allergic, and I have this superpower with dogs. It’s like they know I’m tense around them and they’re trying to get me to warm up to them. I’ll tell you, I get a lot of grief. People just don’t understand how someone doesn’t love a friendly dog that wants a pat on the head. It would be nice if we could swap, I love cats! (although I’m also allergic to them, lol.)

  12. It’s kind of funny how they are attracted to you but you are allergic. Oddly enough, I have the strange ability to attract dogs, and people often refer to me as a dog magnet. If there is a dog anywhere, it will come to me. I even have a daily doggy visitor who will sit at my window and whine to get my attention while it ignores its owner who is just trying to walk them home.

  13. I’m kind of the opposite, in that I love cats but they get twitchy around me. I’m told it’s because they can see their reflection in my glasses.

  14. I’m a dog person, have always been and had a strong aversion to cats. But of late, cats too are growing on me – but from afar!
