Top Ten Tuesday: Foliage and Flower Crowns on Book Covers

May Flowers was the topic for this week, so I decided to hunt down some book covers that have people wearing crowns of foliage or flowers on them.

This is something I’ve seen occasionally in films or books, but I have never seen it done in real life by anyone I know. Perhaps it’s an older custom? Or maybe it’s something done in parts of the world I haven’t visited yet?

Have you ever worn a crowns of flowers or other foliage in your hair or seen someone else do the same thing?

  1. Closest I’ve come is weaving a necklace of grass and such to ward off pinches on St. Patrick’s day!

  2. I wore a flower crown when I got married!

  3. I love this unique topic! Are these all books you’ve read/books on your TBR? Like Deb, I also wore a flower crown at my wedding! A local farmer florist I know made it for me, so that was really special 🙂

  4. Love your take on the topic for this week. Flower crowns are so pretty! My friend used to make these for each of us back in high school.

  5. I think I had a flower crown at my communion (think, long time ago!) but they were fake so I’m not sure that counts.

Wonderful selection of pictures and great topic.

  6. Flower crowns have a long history of use in celebrations and weddings all over the world, When I has a kid girls and women wore them for May Day Celebrations.
    Thanks for sharing your #TTT

  7. Beautiful, and I love the theme! I’ve never worn a flower crown, but I’ve seen them at weddings, and it’s more of a children’s birthday tradition in my husband’s home country. I love the selection of book covers!

  8. These are pretty. I’ve never worn flowers in my hair. I would like to but I have no creativity and it would probably fall out and look weird 🤣

    Have a great week!

  9. Cleverly done! 🌷🙌 love your idea!

  10. What a beautiful and fabulous way to use this week’s topic! I have only seen this in the movies too (I think maybe it was from older times) and feel like it would be fun to try (especially some delicate or small flowers in a braid), but first I’d need an event to go to. 😉

Thanks so much for visiting my list today!

  11. The flower crowns are so pretty, I wish there were more occasions to wear one!

  12. What a great idea for the topic. They are all beautiful.

  13. What an interesting aspect of this week’s topic. I live in New Zealand and we have a lot of Pacific Island people here. They wear flowers in their hair at times of festival.

  14. Poinsettia

Creative take on this week’s topic! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  15. I feel like most people now wear flowers in their hair for weddings and some other formal events. I was always jealous of the girls who could make daisy chains. It was a skill I never learned as a little girl because I was too busy trying to be like the boys.

Here’s my TTT for the week: https://readbakecreate.com/even-more-may-flowers-book-covers-with-flowers/

  16. Great idea, and you found some lovely covers😁

  17. I like how niche you got with this one!

  18. I love all of these covers and I haven’t seen many of them before. Thanks for linking them!

  19. What a cool approach to the topic! So many pretty covers! I especially like the Happy Land cover. Anyway I will be investigating a few of these titles to add lo my impossibly long TBR list. As for flower wreaths in hair, the only time I’ve worn one was for my wedding.

  20. Flower crowns always look so pretty! Great covers!

  21. Oh, Lydia, your twist is as beautiful as the covers. I never would have had that idea. Though, I probably wouldn’t have found books with those covers, either.

Thanks for your visit to my blog:

  22. Ooh, I’m surprised you found so many, I hadn’t expected it to be so common on book covers!

  23. Ooh, I love your take for this week’s prompt! So unique 😍 I love all of these covers too. I don’t know what it is about flower crowns, but I do love them. Can’t remember the last time I wore one though—must’ve been in uni at some party or something, lol. Great picks, Lydia!

  24. Veros @ Dark Shelf of Wonders

I love the spin of flower crowns, those are so pretty and fun to wear! I’ve only worn fake flower ones though for like Halloween or stuff like that but it would be amazing to wear a real one! Oh, I follow Jean Menzies on Youtube but I’ve yet to read any of her books! The Woodcutter sisters series sound fun!

  25. This is a fun twist! I’ve never worn a flower crown or any flowers in my hair at all, except in Hawaii when I was given one to put behind my ear. I have seen women (in photos anyway) wear them when they’re getting married.

    Happy TTT (on a Thursday)!

  26. Lydia, I like your take on this week’s topic. I’ve never got to wear a flower crown, but I know people who have worn them as brides and May queens. 🌼😊

  27. What a great way to bring this topic to life in a unique way, Lydia. I don’t own Happy Land, but I love the author’s work. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog last week.

  28. Flower crowns are a neat way to twist the topic! I have worn one made from dried flowers for a renaissance fair at my high school, but I don’t know if it really was the custom back then or if this is just something we did just for atmosphere.
