I struggled with the original topic for this week, “Favorite Secondary/Minor Characters,” because I’ve been reading more nonfiction lately. Therefore, I’m going rogue.
When I was a teenager, someone called out my name at an amusement park. I turned around only to see a man talking to his young daughter. This was the only time during my childhood that I can recall someone saying Lydia and not meaning me!
Here are ten books that include characters named Lydia.
How common is it for you to find your first name used for fictional characters or in real life to draw the attention of someone who isn’t you?

1. Love for Lydia by H.E. Bates

2. A Home for Goddesses and Dogs by Leslie Connor

3. How to Be a Girl in the World by Caela Carter

4. The Paper Museum by Kate S. Simpson

5. Lydia, Queen of Palestine by Uri Orlev

6. An Accomplished Woman by Jude Morgan

7. The Education of Lydia by Charles X. Wolffe

8. The Testaments (The Handmaid’s Tale, #2) by Margaret Atwood

9. Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng

10. China Trade (Lydia Chin & Bill Smith #1) by S.J. Rozan
I struggled with this one as well and just posted my Teaser Tuesday. Surprised Pride & Prejudice didn’t come up for you!
That’s a good one! I should have thought of it. 🙂
What a fun topic! Aunt Lydia from Handmaid’s Tale / The Testaments would not have immediately come to mind for me. And of course, there’s Lydia Bennet from Pride & Prejudice too!
Yes! Good answer.
What a fun topic! I think the Lydia who first pops to mind for me is Lydia Bennet. ❤️
That’s great. 🙂
Oh, this is a fun topic! I love your name, although it’s not as common these days, so this must have been an interesting search for you. As for me, even with a super common name, I don’t run into as much as I thought I would. The one that really stands out to me is Amy Dunne from Gone Girl.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
Thank you very much. I’ll have to check out Gone Girl sometime.
This was a fun one. It’s always fun to see a family member or your name in a work of fiction. I remember my cousin finding it funny to hear her name (I think it was a movie) in a story once because she never had met a character with her name. 🙂 Thanks for visiting my list today!
You’re welcome. Your cousin must have a very unique name!
Hmm, you make me realise that I don’t think I’ve ever known a Lydia, but I have come across it in fiction a few times… Looks like a good list!
Thank you. 🙂
This is such a fun topic! I think I’ve seen my name in books a few times, though mostly it’s written differently. It would be fun to look them up for a TT some day 🙂
Thank you. I’d like to read that post if you ever write it!
Great topic! I went rogue too.
Thanks. A lot of us did this week!
How fun! You even found one with your name in the title, impressive! I have not read many books with a character named Cindy, it’s just not very common (at least in the books I read). Have a good week!
Thank you. I don’t think I’ve read books with characters named Cindy in them either.
One of my sister’s friends growing up was named Lydia. The only other one I can think of is the one from Beetlejuice. When I find my name (first or last) in a book, I instantly want to read the book and get to know the character. Once I found one that shared my last name, and I swear she sounded like my family. LOL!
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.
Oh, that is too funny. And you’re welcome.
Good work! What a good topic–you should suggest it for TTT. We need new topics. I remember years ago PBS Masterpiece had Love for Lydia–the book has been on my TBR forever.
Here’s the link to the form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe4h-S-YP3LNjwzq3opNmmBKEsKqUPhQTI-wgHcW0PReJkqJQ/viewform
I submitted it. Thank you for the nudge. We’ll see if Jana approves it. 🙂
May you enjoy Love for Lydia if you read it.
It isn’t common for my first name to be in books, that I have read anyhow. My name is derived from Elizabeth so there are plenty of books with the name Elizabeth in it, of course.
Cool! Yes, there are lots of characters named Elizabeth, but not Lisa as much.
This is a fun rogue topic! I’d be curious to see if I’d find enough with my name to make up an entire post haha.
If you do, I’d like to see the list!
What a great choice for today, Lydia. I feel like Cheryl is a common name, but I don’t often come across many characters named Cheryl. Loved your list!
Thank you. Honestly, I can’t think of many characters with your name either, but it is a pretty name. 🙂
This is lovely! I think I’ve only come across my own name a couple of times, but never as a main character. It feels very strange because I am not used to seeing my name in books.
Thank you. I can’t think of any characters who share your name either, but I’m sure there are some out there.
What a fabulous choice of topic and you did really well with it too. I can’t think of a book with my name in it (pronounced Ava) off the top of my head but there must be, surely 🤔.
I’m sure there are! You have a pretty name.
Great post!! My bestie’s daughter is named Lydia. And, I am the one who suggested her name! 🙂
Aww, I love that. How sweet.
What a fun idea for a post! Lydia is not a very common name, especially nowadays. I’ve only known one Lydia and, actually, she was from South America so her name was spelled Lidia. My name is a little more common, although I only know one person under 50 named Susan. I encounter it fairly often in books, but the characters are usually old ladies. Ha ha.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
Susan

Thank you, Susan. Yes, it’s not very common these days. I’ve had a few people pronounce my name the South American way which I think is absolutely beautiful even if it’s not how I pronounce it. 🙂
Susan is a pretty name, too!
There are so many people born at the same time I was here in the US with the name Deborah or Debra or Debbie or Deb, but very few of these names have found their way into books I have read. I’m glad you were able to find so many Lydias.
Thank you, Deb. I’m surprised that you don’t see your name in books very often!
Oh neat! I find Nicoles in books a lot, but I’ve never thought to make a list of them.
You have a very well known name for sure! 🙂
