Top Ten Tuesday: Books With Your Favourite Theme

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Drawing of a hand holding on a piece of string that’s connected to the letter P in the word Hope. How can anyone only pick one trope or theme? I think I could write dozens of blog posts on this topic and still not run out of things to say.

Over the past two years, hopeful stories have been the ones that caught my attention most often for reasons I’m sure all of you can already guess.

Hope seemed like a good theme for a post, so here are eight hopeful books that I’d recommend from a variety of genres.

1. Becoming  by Michelle Obama

2. The Martian by Andy Weir

3. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Chronicles of Narnia, #3)  by C.S. Lewis (The rest of this series is pretty hopeful, too!)

4. A Psalm for the Wild-Built (Monk & Robot, #1)  by Becky Chambers

5. Oh, the Places You’ll Go!  by Dr. Seuss

6. The Hobbit, or There and Back Again  by J.R.R. Tolkien

7. The Princess Bride  by William Goldman

8. The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams Bianco

  1. Hope is a lovely theme to focus on.

  2. What a lovely theme to focus on! 💜 Becoming is one of my favorite books!

  3. I love your choice of topic today, Lydia! After everything that’s happened in the last few years hopeful books are definitely great to read about 😍 I’ve got a few of these on my TBR but Psalm for the Wild Built and Becoming are very high up on my TBR. Fab picks!

  4. That’s a lovely theme, and I’ve heard all of Becky Chambers books (esp. #4 from your list) match it well.

  5. Becoming was such a good read! I miss the Obamas.

  6. What a perfect post. I love to see hope in books. The Princess Bride is such a classic. I have Becoming on my TBR, I need to get to it soon as everyone I know who has listened to it has loved it.

  7. I appreciate your theme today. There’s a quote from Gandalf at the end of the Hobbit that has stuck with me since I first read it in 8th grade. It’s something like, “My dear Bilbo, you are not the hobbit that you once were.” It’s kind of been my mantra throughout life. Every day is going to change you and you won’t be the same hobbit at the end.

And… that was a bit much, sorry. 😀

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

Will you be rereading The Silver Chair next? I found it interesting to see how different the tone of that one was from the cheerfulness of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
