Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I’d Name a Pet After

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

What a fun topic! I also decided to include the species I’d use the name for, and I tried to cover as many different types of pets as possible.

The titles in parentheses will tell you where I found these names if any of them are unfamiliar to you.

I think it would be amusing to give this name to a small, friendly dog.

2. Bunnicula (Bunnicula by James Howe)

For a rabbit, of course!

3. Aragorn (Lord of the Rings)

Honestly, this would work well for any species.

4. Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean)

Okay, so sparrows aren’t generally kept as pets. I’ll bet a budgie, finch, or canary would be well-suited for this sort of moniker.

5. Simba (Lion King)

A big, fluffy cat might appreciate this name.

6. Rocky (the film Rocky)

I’d bet there are lizards, turtles, and other cold-blooded pets out there who would fit this name perfectly.

7. Tinker Bell (Peter Pan)

A spider or large, intimidating dog named Tinker Bell would be delightful.

The vast majority of rabbits are happiest when they live in bonded pairs (or larger groups). If I had two or more rabbits, I’d pick names for them that matched the same theme.

9. Moana (Moana)

This seems like a nice name for a fish, turtle, or other aquatic pet.

10. Remy (Ratatouille)

Last but not least, we can’t forget rats, mice, hamsters, and similar furry friends. Remy seems like a great name for them.

  4. Hi there Lydia!! I am jumping up and down here of excitement!! I was named after Elsa!! Okay, we spell it with a ‘z’, just to make sure people don’t get confused with the connotation.

Love the name Cujo for a small friendly dog. I should have told my parents in law that name when they got their Maltese last year. Neither would ever have known it comes from a Stephen King novel…!

Here’s my I was named after

  5. Lex

Jack Sparrow for a bird, Simba for cat, and Moana for goldfish — I think I like these best

  6. Oh, dang, now I want a bunny named Bunnicula! That’s so funny. 😀

  7. Aragorn is a great choice! It would so much fun to have a bird named Jack Sparrow. Nice list.

  12. These are all great choices, I especially like your choices of Jack Sparrow, Simba and Aragorn!

  13. My dad’s friend once referred to my dog as ‘Cujo.’ Weirdly enough, it was not a compliment. 😛

  14. This is such a fun topic! I wish I had participated. You had some great ideas. I think Simba is the name I’ve seen the most often for pets.

PS – I nominated you for a blogger award. The link attached to my name on this comment has more information. ☀️

  15. Reading Recluses

  19. I’ve seen a few LOTR names today. I would default to those myself! 🙂

  20. TinkerBell would be great for that fluffy white puppy in your post!

  21. We named our Golden Retriever Tinkerbell for this exact reason, haha!

  22. I love Tinker Bell, Aragorn and Jack Sparrow! 🙂

  23. Cujo is such a cool name! I also think it’s really funny to give names of villains, intimidating characters or super dramatic names to small animals. Like imagine naming your Goldfish Lord Voldemort or something haha.

  24. So many cute names there. I love Bunnicula for a rabbit. LOL

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

  25. verushka

Omg, Omg, Bunnicula! That is beyond adorable!!

  26. Great list! I love finding pet names that work for a group of pets. We’ve often ended up with multiple cat siblings (my parents have a barn, and haven’t been able to catch the barn cat mom to get her spayed… therefore annual kittens) and it’s always fun to find theme names for them.

  27. This was a fun list! Cujo for a small dog. Buniculla, man I forgot about that story. Read it as a little one. Simba is also great, lion King is the best Disney ever!! Rocky also seems like a really cool name.

  28. Bunnicula! That book didn’t even cross my mind while prepping my post for this week, but I love it. One of my childhood favorites.

  29. I love the idea of a pair of rabbits named Elsa and Anna. Or perhaps even guinea pigs? XD So fun!

  30. Oh man…I think a Chihuahua named Cujo would be perfect! They’re not particularly friendly, but they are small. Have a wonderful week.

  31. HAHA oh I really LOL’d with Tinker Bell! I would LOVE to name a massive scary looking beastie Tinker Bell — and then have it be a real sweetie despite its menacing appearance. YES! I want this to happen 😂 Fab list and reasonings, Lydia! Also, thank you for the much-needed laugh ❤️

  32. Yes, Cujo would definitely be a great name for a little dog! I love all of the Disney themed names. My sister actually owned a hamster named Remy, based off Ratatouille.

  33. In the book After Many A Summer by Aldous Huxley there is a Yorkshire Terrier called Mr. Gladstone which is, I feel, the best pet name I’ve ever heard.

  34. Lovely mixture of names for different pets, Lydia 🙂

  35. Cujo for a tiny dog would be so funny! That film terrified me when I was young. But I used to be chased by large dogs in my neighborhood, so I’ve always been a little scared of dogs.:)

  36. I love Aragorn and don’t ask me why, but I’m envisioning for a big tom cat, lol

  37. Bunnicula is so so perfect!!

  38. Awwwwe I love Rocky for a reptile and Moana for a fish! <3 But why Tinker Bell for a spider? O.o

  39. OMG Jack Sparrow is perfect! And Remy too! 🙂
