Top Ten Tuesday: Extraordinary Book Titles

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

I’m going to assume that this week’s prompt is asking us to make a list of book titles that are unique and attention grabbing. Everything on my list is something that grabbed my attention so thoroughly I had to pick it up and read the blurb as soon as I spotted its title. Since most of them are still on my TBR, I won’t go into detail about them this time.

1. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, #1) by Seth Grahame-Smith

2. The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse by Robert Rankin

3. Fairy Tales Written by Rabbits by Mary A. Parker

4. Never Slow Dance with a Zombie  by E. Van Lowe

5. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt

6. Go the Fuck to Sleep by Adam Mansbach

7.The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Fairyland, #1) by Catherynne M. Valente

9. Ophelia Joined the Group Maidens Who Don’t Float: Classic Lit Signs on to Facebook by Sarah Schmelling

  1. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a delightfully absurd book!

And while I haven’t read The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland, the album inspired by that book (Wonders by S. J. Tucker) is one of my favorites and well worth listening to if you like fairy folk music. (SJ Tucker is one of my favorite musicians, period.)

  2. “The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse” — Now THAT’S a title and I’m curious and have so many questions. xD I’ve always loved the title “Go the Fuck to Sleep,” and it makes me giggle. Because I’m clearly a horrible parent.

  3. Ooo! P+P+Z is an excellent pick. That one definitely snags the attention of a would-be reader, whether for the good or bad, well, that depends on the reader. 😉 Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland, Lydia.

  4. Hey, I just checked out ‘The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making’ from the local library for my younger sister the other day. All truly unusual titles, but my favorite has got to be ‘The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse!” 🙂

  5. I’ve read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which was a lot of fun, but I haven’t watched the movie yet. Might be a good one this time of year. Great list! 🙂

  6. I have a copy of The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland, but just haven’t read it yet. All of these titles sound amazing. I particularly like the Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse. That sounds like a hoot!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

  7. “The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Fairyland, #1)”

How to sell me a book in one ‘little’ title! Great list.

  8. These are most definitely extraordinary titles. And, as someone who has had issues with sleep my whole life, I especially love the title Go the Fuck to Sleep. Haven’t all parents wanted to scream that out?

  9. I can’t BELIEVE I forgot The Girl Who Circumnavigated… it’s an amazing title. And I’m totally used to Love in the Time of Cholera now, but I thought it was a very quirky title when I first heard it. It’s funny what you grow accustomed to, eh?

  10. Ooh I really like The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse! Great title. Same with Never Slow Dance With a Zombie. eww lol.

Go the F*ck To Sleep cracks me up!

  11. Go the Fuck to Sleep has always caught my attention. I really need to read it to see what it’s about. I picked up
.The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making but didn’t get through much of it and ended up DNFing it. If you get around to it I’d like to see what you think.

  12. You have some really awesome-sounding book titles listed here…I think I’ve heard good things about the Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse. I was given Pride & Prejudice and Zombies for my birthday one year…and just couldn’t get into it. I think I’m too attached to the original novel 😀

  13. Great list. I have read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, of course because of the title – and that I read Pride and Prejudice in high school. Never Slow Dance With A Zombie is being added to my TBR. Thanks for sharing.

  14. The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse sounds like a super fun title. And I do need to get around to .The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, I like what I’ve read of Valente’s other books and short stories so far.

  15. The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse is an interesting title! And I’ve heard of The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairlyand in a Ship of Her Own Making; great title! The word choice is awesome. 🙂

Thank you for checking out my list too!

  16. I haven’t heard of most of these, but I definitely clicked on 2 and 9 to find out more. (and number 9 is DEFINITELY going on my library-checkout list now)

I haven’t read 5 or 8, but I’m familiar with them and I agree they have an iconic ring to them.
