Top Ten Tuesday: Fictional Animals I’d Want to Meet

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Photo of an blond English Cocker Spaniel puppy sitting on a dirt trail in a forest. She is looking up lovingly at the human who is holding her leash just out of view and to the right of this photo. The forest is lush and looks as green and vibrant as it should in July or August when summer is peaking and everything is growing furiously. You can barely see anything of the sky because of how tall the trees are!If only it were possible to meet all of them!

1. Enzo from The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

2. Wilbur and Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web
by E.B. White

3. All of the friendly rabbits from Watership Down (Watership Down, #1) by Richard Adams

4. The Velveteen Rabbit from The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams Bianco

5. Mole, Water Rat, Badger, and maybe even Toad from The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

6. Bambi from Bambi (Bambi, #1) by Felix Salten

As some of these answers included multiple characters, I think this will suffice.

Which fictional animals would you want to meet?

  1. Winn-Dixie from the Kate DiCamillo novel would be at the top of my list. Old Dan and Little Ann from Where the Red Fern Grows would also be on the list. I’d love to meet Beverly Cleary’s Ribsy in real life.

  2. Yes!! My first list that I started was about all the animals too! Watership Down is my favorite book of all time so I am with you on that one. I would include Mouse from the Jim Butcher Harry Dresden books. 🙂

  3. Awww, I love this twist! So sweet. I just finished reading a book in a cozy series I enjoy that features a debonair and mischievous pot-bellied pig. Although I wouldn’t want to be his owner, it would be fun to witness his shenanigans firsthand 🙂 Also, I didn’t realize pigs could be indoor pets, but my friend had one and said it was the best pet ever. Who knew??

    Happy TTT!

  4. I’d hang out with the wind in the willows crew 😂 and any of the LOTR or Wheel of Time horses & ponies, there are so many!

  5. Without a doubt, Aslan. And Reepicheep. And — well, I could go on!

  6. This is a great list! I would love to meet the animals from The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse too!

  7. A picnic with the characters of The Wind in the Willows was one of my dreams when i was a child

  8. Aw, Wilbur and Charlotte… I used to watch that flick all the time as a kid. I also loved The Velveteen Rabbit storybook as a kid too. 🙂 Fun list, and thanks so much for visiting my website today!

  9. Ooh, I love this take on the topic 🙂 I’d love to meet so many fictional animals that I’ve encountered in books, especially of the fantastical variety!

  10. What a clever list! I agree with all of them, and I think I’d add Marcellus the octopus from Remarkably Bright Creatures to the list too. Happy Tuesday!

  11. Oh, great take on today’s topic! I would like to meet the cats from Diane Duane’s Feline Wizards trilogy, especially if they were able to talk to me. (Wizard code says they aren’t supposed to show regular people that they are extraordinary, but maybe…)

  12. Good topic! I’d like to meet a few of the fictional cats I’ve read about and some of the horses and dogs, too.

  13. I love your list! And oh gosh, I can’t think of very many right now, but maybe the luck dragon from The Neverending Story, and I would love to meet Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and all the other residents of the 100 Acre Wood!

  14. I thought about taking this angle but didn’t. Now I wish I had! I would add Reepicheep, Aslan, Despereaux, Harriet Hamsterbone…. I’m sure there are lots more.

  15. I thought the same thing when I read RACING IN THE RAIN, Enzo would be a fabulous pet. I l often think of him when I have to leave my dog in the house alone for a long time and wonder if my dog thinks like Enzo did about not wanting to make potty messes.

  16. I’ve never really thought about what fictional animals I’d love to meet. I’m afraid if I were to meet them, that I wouldn’t want to let them go.

  17. I’d love to meet Charlotte! And Ratty and Mole. They’d be so fun to hang out with. And there’s a dog named Mouse from Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden series that I’d love to meet, too. 😀 Fun take on this week’s TTT.

  18. Poinsettia

Great take on this week’s topic! I definitely have a soft spot for fictional animals, especially dogs. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  19. I also spotlighted animal characters this week! I didn’t even think of Charlottes Web, I’d be delighted to meet Wilbur!
(Charlotte not so much (she’s got too many legs))

  20. Awwww, Wilbur and Charlotte are such great choices! I’d like to meet the crow from Hollow Kingdom, and I know there are plenty more dogs and horses from fantasy novels too, but I’m drawing a blank! Great list.

  21. Aww haha I almost picked the animals from Wind in the Willows too! Since you already visited my post you saw the animals that I would want to meet but I like your list too, I’d give a pet to every one of these 🖤

  22. Anthropomorphic: Wilbur and Charlotte, Reepicheep and Bree and Hwin

    More believable as animals:
    Mary O’Hara’s Flicka
R.A. Douthitt’s Buddy in “The Road to Home”
Paul Gallico’s Thomasina (I knew several cats named after her!)
    Marguerite Henry’s Misty
    Eric Knight’s original Lassie

    • And I *dare* anybody to read Richard Adams’ “Plague Dogs” and not want to adopt Rowf and Snitter. I know they’d be problem pets and I would not be the right person to rescue dogs like them, but. Still.

Hence the Petfinder posts on my blog. Somebody out there is the right person to adopt those animals. It’s only a matter of finding the person.

  23. I’m not a big fan of animals but I like your twist on the topic. And I even read two of your books: Watership Down and Charlotte’s Web.

Thank you for visiting my post.

  24. Hmm, excellent question. I’d like to meet Vera and Lenore from Shady Hollow! But they’re so much like people it feels like maybe cheating…
