Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Books Releasing in the First Half of 2023

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Just like I say every time seasonal TBR posts come up, I won’t be able to come up with a full ten answers or predict everything I’ll read over the next few months. I admire those of who you are that methodical, but that’s not quite how my reading habits work.

With that being said, these books will hopefully be included along with the usual mood reads and whatever intriguing stories I happen to stumble across at my local library this winter and spring.

Old Babes in the Woods: Stories by Margaret Atwood Book cover. Image on cover shows a drawing of a white cat with yellow and black eyes staring straight ahead at the reader.

Why I Want to Read It: I’ve loved most of Atwood’s stories and give everything she publishes a shot.

Piñata (Hardcover) by Leopoldo Gout book cover. Image on cover shows a drawing of a creature wearing a hood and a hat that is comprised of about a dozen spikes coming out of what appears to be a human skull.

Why I Want to Read It: I am not very familiar with indigenous Mexican lore and am looking forward to learning more about it here.

A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher book cover. Image on cover shows silhoutte of a buzzard sitting in a house with green wallpaper and white trimmed walls and door frame.

  1. I’m new to T. Kingfisher too, might try and read some of her backlist before A House With Good Bones but I do want to read it.

  2. The cover of Pinata is creepy – but also makes me want to know more.

  3. Deanne Patterson

Atwood’s book has an interesting cover and I’d give Kingfisher’s a try as well. The other one I’m not too sure about, it looks pretty creepy.

  4. Kaitlin @ pickwickthedodo

Pinata sounds SO COOL, I’ve added it to my tbr as well. I haven’t read T Kingfisher yet but I’ve been meaning to read What Moves the Dead. Great list!

  5. I’d like to read Margaret Atwood, I tend to watch the series based on her books instead of reading. Alias Grace was fantastic.

  6. I’m very curious about Kingfisher’s book but it also looks entirely out of my comfort zone! 😂 I hope you enjoy all these books, Lydia.

  7. Oh I might need to add a couple of these to my reading pile!

  8. These look like great reads. I hope you love them.

  9. Anita@seriesbooklover

I need to give T Kingfisher a try as well

  10. I’m too much of a mood reader to ever stick to a TBR. LOL But these all look like good reads, I hope you enjoy them if you do read them.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  11. M. T. Wilson @ The Last Book on the Left

I’ve not heard of any of these, but I hope you enjoy them when you get to them!

  12. I need to give T. Kingfisher a try, but some of her books look a bit too dark or creepy for me. I hope you enjoy all three of these!

I have a mix of fantasy, romance, and mystery on my TTT list today.

  13. I know so many readers like Margaret’s books. She hasn’t been an author I’ve tried but I hope you enjoy her book as well as any others that you’re excited to discover in 2023. Happy reading and thanks so much for visiting my website this week. 🙂

  14. Kingfisher is a writer I want to give a try – got a couple on my Kindle but never quite had the time…
These are some of the books I am most looking forward to this year.

    • What a cool list, Michael. I’ve been having trouble leaving comments on your posts for a while now, but I appreciate you stopping by and I’ll keep trying every week. 🙂

  15. I do follow new releases but not necessarily with the intent of reading them when they come out. I just put them on my Goodreads TBR to keep them on my radar (and it helps to make lists like these, LOL!). I hope you enjoy these if/when you do get to read them!

  16. I do know my new releases of favourite authors so that wasn’t a problem. But… I know I will fall at the post of the debut authors coming up. May have to leave it out entirely!

    • I literally just finished working on that post. If you do a search on Goodreads you can find a big list of debut authors for the next several months. No pressure, of course, but I would have skipped that prompt if I hadn’t had that resource.

  17. A House With Good Bones is on my watchlist too! I’m trying to catch up on T. Kingfisher’s backlist too.

  18. I’m a brand-new T. Kingfisher fan, so I’m eager to read more of her work too, though that one may be too scary for me!

  19. Oh these covers all look neat and a bit creepy. I hope you enjoy them!

  20. I haven’t read Kingfisher yet but I have one of his on my challenge this year!! I’ve heard so many good things.

  21. Pinata looks creepy and good. And I’ve got A House With Good Bones on my TBR list. Thanks for commenting on my blog earlier. 😀

  22. It looks like you’ve found some interesting books. I hope you enjoy all of these when you get the opportunity to read them.

  23. Wendy Williams

I have the ARC for Atwoods Book. I hope we both enjoy it.

  24. I haven’t read any Kingfisher yet (I have Nettle & Bone, iirc the title, on hold currently) but A HOUSE WITH GOOD BONES also catches my eye!

  25. I still have to read My Evil Mother by Atwood…. It‘s been starting at me since last April.

  26. Isn’t T. Kingfisher amazing!? I love her work and am so excited for A House With Good Bones! I’ve also been SO curious about Pinata, it sounds amazing.

  27. Great list! Piñata sounds good, and I have an ARC of A House with Good Bones that I’m super excited for! Hopefully you enjoy all of these.

  28. Knowing what books I will be reading in the month ahead is not how my reading habits works either. I just can’t keep up with every new release.

  29. T. Kingfisher quickly became a favorite last year and I can’t wait to read this!

  30. Im a new T. Kingfisher fan too, last year i loved Nettle & Bone and The Raven and the Reindeer

  31. I’m not very methodical with my reading either, and I don’t keep track of upcoming releases from favorite authors, so I get a pleasant surprise when I see they’ve released a new book. That’s why I turn these themes into games on Netgalley.

    Have a great week.

  32. I tend not to read story collections, but I may have to make an exception for Margaret Atwood!

  33. Jo

I hope you enjoy all of these. I always have new releases that I’m excited for, but I definitely don’t use my most anticipated lists as a TBR of any kind, they’re all books I know I want to read at some point rather than, this is what I’m going to be reading this year kind of thing.

  34. I’m not very methodical about what/how I read, but I do like to keep book lists to remind me of what I want to read. I’d forget otherwise! I also just enjoy making lists, even if I never stick to them.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  35. I’ve heard a lot about T Kingfisher but I haven’t read anything of theirs yet!

  36. I keep hearing good things about Kingfisher’s books!

  37. I enjoy making the lists, but I can’t say I really follow them. It feels too forced if I do and takes some of the fun out of reading, but there are definitely quite a few books out there that I would like to read someday. I just can’t say when! I didn’t know that Margaret Atwood had a new book coming out! It does sound good. I would like to try something by T. Kingfisher at some point too. I hope you enjoy both of these when you read them!

  38. I definitely don’t stick to my lists. I just share what I’m excited about knowing it may be months or years or I may never pick them up. Ha! I’ve only read two books by Atwood–The Handmaid’s Tale, which I liked and The Heart Goes Last, which I did not. I’m always nervous to give her other books a try. I hope you enjoy these if/when you pick them up!

  39. I hadn’t heard of either Piñata or A House With Good Bones, but I definitely want to read them both now! I also love T. Kingfisher and hadn’t realized they had another book coming out.

  40. I hope you’ll get to read these 😉

  41. The books definitely sound interesting. I hope you will be able to get to them and to enjoy them 🙂

  42. RS

It’s fantastic that you have authors you enjoy enough to look forward to everything they publish — writers with that much pull are few and far between (for me at least), and it’s a really nice feeling to find one. Hope you enjoy these!

  43. Pinata and House With Good Bones are both on my TBR too! I didn’t know Margaret Atwood had a new one out, I will have to check that out too! Hope you enjoy these!
