Thank you to Sabrina @ Notes From a Paper Plane Nomad for coming up with this topic!
This is one of those weeks when I will be giving a little more than the suggested ten answers.
What surprised me while doing research for this post was how common it is for many movies and tv shows that werenโt originally based on books to eventually have stories published about them anyway.
I wonder if there has ever been or will ever be a film based on a book that was originally based on another film?
At any rate, here are some films that would make great books. So far as the Internet tells me, no books have been written about any of them yet.
1. Us
2. Good Will Hunting
3. Inception
4. The Cabin in the Woods
5. Beetlejuice
6. Edward Scissorhands
7. Nope!
8. Europa Report
9. Labyrinth
10. Get Out
11. The Sixth Sense
I look forward to reading everyone elseโs responses.
Ooh, definitely agree on Good Will Hunting. I wasn’t really thinking about movies, just went with a few TV shows. May have to re-do mine…
Go for it if you wish! ๐
I couldn’t think of any movies or shows that weren’t already books before the adaptation. But Get Out and The Cabin in the Woods would make such interesting books. I’d be interested to see how the narrative of Get Out could look like, I’m thinking something in the similar thread of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
Iโll have to look those two up. They sound interesting.
Us would make for a really interesting book, I’d love to have learned more about that world-building.
Same!
These are great picks! I’m really surprised Edward Scissorhands and The Cabin in the Woods don’t have books written about them. I thought the latter was based on a book and the same for Labyrinth but I’m usually so clueless about these things. ๐ I agree they’d make great books though! Thanks for stopping by earlier ๐
I was surprised, too! And youโre welcome.
I love Labryinth! I’d be very curious to see how well the visuals from the movie could get translated into prose.
Here’s my TTT this week: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2024/03/26/top-ten-tuesday-still-more-quotes-about-books/
It would be super interesting for sure!
I would be excited for Labyrinth as a book! I loved the movie so much!
Wasnโt it great?
I wonder if Inception would have been less confusing the first time around if there’d been a novel. Good list!
You know what, it probably would have been easier to understand! And thanks. ๐
These would all be really fun! I especially loved seeing Goodwill Hunting on there. I think they took the screenplay and made it a book.
Oh, cool! I did not know that.
Beetlejuice is a good one!
๐
You thought of some good ones! ๐
Thanks. ๐
Oh, Beetlejuice and The Sixth Sense would indeed make such great books!
Especially with the twists in them!
I tend to be someone who doesn’t like “scary” stories, no matter the media medium, so I have never seen “The Sixth Sense,” but I know it’s an extremely popular flick that, based on the little I know about it, would indeed be a good book. ๐ Thanks a bunch for visiting my website today!
There are some scary scenes in it for sure, but itโs so good.
And youโre welcome.
Ah, Beetlejuice! I loved that movie when I was a teenager! Have a great week.
Thanks. I havenโt seen it since I was a kid, but I sure liked it back then.
In some ways, it feels like Good Will Hunting should have been a book first, but I know it wasn’t. A book version should be really good!

Agreed!
Great picks. I’m actually surprised to learn here today that Good Will Hunting ISN’T based on a book, it has all the hallmarks.
Thanks. Yeah, it sure felt like it should have been a book first.
I would read so many of these in book form. I love how so many of these are quirky. That doesn’t always translate well on paper, but when it does, it feels special. What a great list!
Aww, thank you.
Good Will Hunting!
Nice work. I blew it and did next week’s
No worries, Lisa! It happens. ๐
I agree with Nope! I would have loved that as a book.
๐
I would like the Labyrinth book to be written by Holly Black, please. ๐
Ooh, yes!
๐๐ป to inception and edward scissorhands , also to sixth sense and good will hunting.. usually don’t watch too many movies like cabin in the woods ๐
Heh, I donโt watch a lot of those movies either.
Edward Scissorhands!! Such a great movie and would make a great book! Great list.
Thanks. ๐
I love this list! Edward Scissorhands was such a brilliant movie, and it would have been perfect as a book. I always love the books more since it gives more time for the story and the characters to develop, and offers more insight that we don’t always get in a show or a movie.
So very true! Thatโs one of the bigger advantages of books.
Oh Edward Scissorhands would make a great book!
๐
Novelizations–or books based on films–was big in the 80s and 90s. I collect them! Labyrinth (if you are talking about the 80s film with David Bowie) actually has a novelization I want to get my hands on. ๐ I wish they’d bring them back. Us, Get Out, and Nope would make great books!
I didnโt know that. Cool! Yeah, that should totally make a comeback.
