I believe that hope is the most important ingredient of a theme song.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland.

Musicals generally aren’t my cup of tea, but Judy Garland did an excellent job with Somewhere Over the Rainbow. There is so much hope embedded in it even though Dorothy had no idea what twists and turns were coming in her life at this point, much less how she’d get through them.

I listen to this song when I’m having a bad day or am worried about something out of my control.  It’s been my experience that things often work out in the end even if you can’t currently see how everything will be resolved.

Holding onto hope in the meantime is so important!

  1. Oh, great choice. Barbra Streisand does a great job on it.

  2. That song does speak tons of hope. Good one.

  3. Love that movie, though I frequently sing “If I Only Had A Brain” instead…

And how can you not like musicals. I don’t know if we can still be friends. 😉

  4. That is not a choice I would have expected, but I like it! (And, for a couple of reasons, it’s one that I also have closely associated with The Rainbow Connection.)

  5. This is an amazing song and will definitely lift your spirits!

  6. I look for hope in songs as well, something that lifts my spirits and gives me courage to just take the next step.

  7. Oh one of my favorites! You are so right. When you can’t see how you’re going to get to the other side, something always shows you the way. Thanks for sharing. Here’s mine.

  8. Great pick for a theme song! Hope is so important. I saw someone else in the comments mentioned “The Rainbow Connection”, but my personal favorite song from The Muppet Movie is “The Magic Store”. I don’t know that I would consider it my personal theme song, but maybe.

  9. I used to sing this to my kids as a lullaby.. I love this song. I also love Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s version of it.

  10. This is a good choice. Definitely makes me think hopeful thoughts when I hear it.

  11. Oh yes, I’ve always liked this one.
