Top Ten Tuesday: Books From My Past Seasonal TBR Posts I Still Haven’t Read

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Drawing of a shadow of a large hand pointing accusingly at a man wearing a suit who is cowering in embarrassment. This stock photo made me giggle. Don’t take it too seriously.

Posts that ask us to look back at our seasonal TBR posts and talk about which books from them we haven’t read always make me feel like I’m back in school and being graded by the teacher or have just been called into the boss’ office for a stern talking-to.

I am so glad that Jana does not actually care how many or how few books from past seasonal TBR posts we’ve read.

Here are some books I’ve talked about in those previous posts that I still need to read.

Life Ceremony: Stories  by Sayaka Murata book cover. Image on cover shows a drawing of Japanese food in a black bowl.

Life Ceremony: Stories  by Sayaka Murata

Why I Haven’t Read It Yet: It’s still something I want to read. I simply need to find the time to do so.

The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean book cover. Image on cover shows cutouts of a mother and child from the pages of a book. These silhouettes are walking up to a building made from the page of a print book and looking at a lit window in it as the mom points at it.

The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean

Why I Haven’t Read It Yet: The cover looks a little scarier to me every time I look at it again. I’m intrigued by the idea of people eating books (and finding different flavours associated with different genres), but I’m not ready for anything too frightening at the moment.

Girlhood by Melissa Febos book cover. The only decoration on this cover is the title and author repeated over and over again with each repetition missing a little more of the words.

Why I Haven’t Read It Yet: I’m not in the right headspace to read it right now.

Cursed Bunny  by Bora Chung book cover. Image on cover is a drawing of an alert purple hare.

Why I Haven’t Read It Yet: Honestly, I think I was more interested in the cover than the story itself. Isn’t this a compelling cover?

Cat Problems  by Jory John book cover. Image on cover is of a stressed-out cat sitting in a cardboard box.

Why I Haven’t Read It Yet: The Toronto Public Library hasn’t ordered copies of it yet.

Living Beyond Borders: Stories About Growing Up Mexican in America by Margarita Longoria book cover. Image on cover is a drawing of a man with a butterfly on his shoulder walking into a Mexican village.

Why I Haven’t Read It Yet: I’m not in the right headspace to read it yet.

Patience & Esther by SW Searle book cover. Image on cover is of two Edwardian women kissing romantically.

Why I Haven’t Read It Yet: The Toronto Public Library hasn’t ordered a copy yet. I did send them an official request to do so, though! We’ll see if they listen to me.

  1. Life Stories sounds interesting!

    Thanks for stopping by earlier.

  2. I’m very curious about The Book Eaters. But I agree that the cover looks scary!

  3. Some of these definitely interest me, especially Book Eaters. I agree, Cursed Bunny’s cover definitely attracted me. I hope you get a chance to read the ones that really call to you, soon.

  4. The Book Eaters is a very recent addition to my TBR after I saw someone mention that it’s a contender for favourite of the year! I can’t wait to read it! I hope you enjoy all of these whenever you get around to them, Lydia 😉

  5. Oh, the number of books to be read, and woe the little time to read them.

  6. With a title like Cursed Bunny, I’m already intrigued. 🙂

  7. Lol. I totally agree that it feels like we’re being graded on what we read. Great metaphor. Thanks for stopping by my post.

  8. The Book Eaters is on my TBR. And I’ve probably got a few books in my stash that I snagged for the covers, but haven’t mustered up the enthusiasm to actually read!

  9. True, Lydia, it’s a good thing, Jana understands us so well. I think we are all in the same boat here.

Good luck with your TBR list.

Thanks for visiting my TTT this week.

  10. Cursed Bunny does have an awesome cover! I hope you enjoy whichever of these you get to (and hope the library comes through for you soon!)

  11. Cat Problems is the story of my life. LOL Also, I need to pick up Living Beyond Borders. Where I’m at in the US, we have a huge Hispanic population and I think it might do me some good.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  12. Being in the right mindset for a book is so important! Good for you for knowing when is not the right time to read specific books. I’ve gotten better at that, but I used to try to force it, and ended up not liking the book as a result. Much better to wait.

The Cursed Bunny cover is eye-catching, but it looks a little too cursed for me. 😉

  13. Availability at the library is certainly a good excuse not to have read a book. But I don’t think we need excuses for not reading nor for reading.

Thanks for your visit to my blog. Have a lovely day.

  14. I haven’t done well reading my TBR shelves. Always next year!

I’ve seen Book eaters around. It looks interesting!

    Have a great week!

  16. Anita@seriesbooklover

Hope you get to read your list

  17. Ooh, some interesting titles! The Book Eaters are on my TBR too, but not for the forseeable future. Maybe save it for October and some Halloween readathon?

  18. Hope you’ll love all of these when you get to them!

  19. I’ve got The Book Eaters on my TBR too, and it’s definitely a bit intimidating.

  20. Jo

I hope you enjoy all of these whenever you get to them.

  21. I love the sound of The Book Eaters. You’ve got a really interesting list there – I hope you enjoy reading them all… eventually!

  22. I am curious about Bunny now. 🙂

  23. I feel the same way! Except, I have my own brand of guilt I pour on myself as well, LOL. I hope you enjoy these when you get to them.

  24. The Book Eaters has such an interesting cover! I hope you enjoy these when/if you do get around to reading them.

  25. Patience and Esther, as well as The Book Eaters, both look interesting! I can see what you mean by the cover though for The Book Eaters haha

  26. There are a few books that I’ve requested my library to buy, a few years ago at this point, that they haven’t bought.

    • I hope they buy them someday!

There was a book I requested several years ago that my library finally bought last year. So don’t lose hope. 🙂

  27. Living Beyond Borders sounds fascinating but definitely a book you need to be in the right frame of mind for. I’ve seen Cursed Bunny around a bit but I haven’t read it

  28. Haha!! Yes, it feels like we are doing a “mid-year review” at work. I hated those! LOL. I really want to read Book Eaters!

  29. Cursed Bunny is on my tbr and while it was definitely the cover that draw me to it, I have heard great things about it from a few people I trust so I’m excited to read it

  30. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our libraries could afford to have every book we want to read on hand? I hope you’re able to get some of the books you requested soon.

  31. How dare the TPL not order the books you want to read! I hope that you enjoy these when you get the opportunity!

  32. I like the cover of cat problems.

  33. Very cute book covers! I love them!

  34. Some of these sound really good. I hope you enjoy them when you get a chance to read them.

  35. There are some fantastic covers on this list, even if I don’t know much about the books. Living Beyond Borders sounds like a book I’d like – I love books that tell the stories of immigrants. Happy Top Ten Tuesday!

  36. Right? Prompts like this always make me feel guilty, even though I know TBR lists are just for fun. I never take them too seriously, but still…

I hope you enjoy these books if/when you get to them.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  37. Aww, I feel sad that my prompt suggestion has made so many bloggers feel bad. That’s not what I intended at all. I just like to look back to refresh my mind on what I haven’t read and what I still want to read. Don’t take those TBRs too seriously. 🙂 Happy reading!

  38. That stock photo cracks me up. I feel like that, with my TBR looming over me. xD I want to read The Book Eaters, too! It looks really interesting.

  39. I’m actually getting ready to start reading The Book Eaters and am curious to see how scary it really is.

  40. Thank goodness Jana’s only goal is book conversation and fun! I agree. 🙂 Hope you enjoy all of these when you read them, Lydia. Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland on this week – apologies, as usual, it took me this long to visit here.

  41. Cat Problems looks so cute from the cover! I’ll have to look it up. I love books about cats!
