Top Ten Tuesday: Book Titles That Would Make Great Newspaper Headlines

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Thank you to Cathy @ What Cathy Read Next for coming up with this topic. It’s a unique one.

I’d sure want to read all of these newspaper headlines. Many of them could easily appear in a regular newspaper, while others would work best if written by a reporter who lived in a speculative fiction universe.

Some weeks I can only come up with four or five answers, so this time I’ll happily be going over the limit to help make up for that.

A black man sitting at a table and reading a newspaper. He has a serious, thoughtful expression on his face and has just looked up to make eye contact with the reader when this shot was taken. He’s sitting bedside a large picture window that has the blinds drawn, but it’s such a sunny day that you can still see lots of light pouring into the room. 1. 1. Love your picks! I also included Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep on my list this week too. 😊

  2. You found some really good titles for this week’s TTT! Good job. 😀

  3. 5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin is an awesome book title. You found some good ones. 🙂

  4. Have you read “Spiders”? Sounds interesting, but prejudicial.

  5. OMG “5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth” absolutely grabbed my attention!

  6. Oh, some of these were really funny like “I kissed a zombie!”

  7. The vampire and zombie one would fit so well in some of the funny movie worlds like Vampire Academy or Warm Bodies. Lots of apocalyptic headline vibes there. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my website today!

  8. Omg I didn’t even know 15 Days Without A Head was a thing. I’m going to have to check it out!

  9. Oh you found some good ones! I’m intrigued by so many of them, but especially 15 Days Without a Head 😀

  10. Joanne

The Secret Life of Bees is just perfect!

  11. Fun list! I would read a lot of these articles, too.

Actually, I kind-of have read one of them already. “By The Time You Read This, I’ll Be Dead” reminds me of an article / interview a friend of mine wrote several years ago while she was dying of cancer. I think the article was published after she passed—I certainly read it afterward. It was both hard to read, and also very nice closure. So that title makes a perfect article header to me.

    My TTT for this week

  12. The headlines in a spec fic universe- what a cool idea!

Very Good Reasons To Punch A Dolphin- love it 🙂

The Goodman one reminds me I haven’t read her in a LONG time. I liked her Blythewood series.

  13. So many good titles!

My favorites: 15 Days without a Head, and I Kissed a Zombie, and I Liked It.

I’d be a little worried about my community if the local newspapers had these headlines. 🤣

  14. I love all of these, and would be too interested in all of these headlines to pass up on them. 15 days without a head is one of those headlines that I could see in the science section!

A great list. A lot of those titles made me laugh!

    Have a great week!

  19. I also had The Secret Life of Bees on my list! How fun!

  20. Punch a Dolphin or Kiss a Zombie I’d ask if reading these in a grocery store check-out line! Good post!

  21. First You Write sounds like the book about writing that I have been seeking. I will check it out. Happy reading! My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/book-titles-that-would-make-great-newspaper-headlines/

  22. You knocked it out of the park, Lydia! I especially like #2. Great job this week!

  23. RS

Ohhh, I’ve read both #5 and #9, and I didn’t even think of them! Those work so perfectly. #5 actually just made my stomach clench a little as it eerily makes me think of actual reports we’re getting from the Gaza Strip…

But all of these are genuinely great, especially given your note that some would have to take place in speculative fiction universes — you really rocked this prompt.

  24. This is a fun list! Thanks for dropping over!
