While I’m not quite as deeply introverted as I was as a child, I still relish time alone to do quiet activities. Here are some of the things I do to recharge.

A shady dirt path in a forest. It is surrounded by vibrant green trees.

Nature Walks

There’s something incredibly soothing about walking in all sorts of natural settings, from forests to beaches to mountains and more.

This is something I can do with certain people as long as they’re not too talkative during the walk. Occasional bits of conversation are fine when necessary, but I find nature walks best when we can mostly walk in companionable silence and listen to the beautiful sounds of nature.

Time Alone

Other than the many usual sources of stress we all went through during the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the toughest parts of the past eighteen months has been how little time alone I’ve had.

This was especially true during the winter when Toronto was under a strict Stay at Home order and it was too cold to take a long walk outside. I love my spouse dearly, but I also desperately needed alone time during those long months spent at home!

Jigsaw and Sudoku Puzzles

Close-up photo of a ballpoint pen lying on a sheet of Sudoku puzzlesI’ll dabble in other sorts of puzzles, too, but these two are my favourite kinds of puzzles.

It’s nice to sit quietly and think about something that is guaranteed to have an answer.

The satisfaction of figuring it out makes me quite happy.

Reading

This last answer is sort of obvious for us bookish folks, but some books are wonderful for recharging after I’ve done a lot of socializing.

Rereading old favourite stories is a particularly good way for me to recharge, especially if they have lighthearted subject matter.

  1. I’m the same way, need some time alone at times. Puzzles are a nice way to spend some time!

  2. I totally agree with all your recharging actions. I absolutely love Sudokus, especially Killer Sudokus. But any other kind of puzzle will do, as well.

  3. I swear that the key to a happy, healthy marriage is time away from each other. Great ways to reenergize yourself, too.

  4. Introverts of the world unite! Just, y’know, separately. But yeah: nature, quiet time, alone time… all very much me too.

  5. As an introvert, I totally relate to all of this.

  6. Jigsaw puzzles! I love them. I do they on the computer sometimes to.

  7. Puzzles are great! I have enjoyed doing sudoku a lot during the pandemic, too. In fact, we found a YouTube channel called Cracking the Cryptic, where they post sudoku solve videos (2 per day!). It’s a great way to learn about some of the advanced solve techniques and sudoku variants (like chess sudoku, thermo sudoku, and killer sudoku).

  8. These are good. I like nature walks, honestly, it’s usually the parks that I call nature as there really is no forest or any space that is all nature without some skyscraper nearby.

Puzzles are good. I use to do sudoku but now I like to do jigsaw puzzles instead.

I wouldn’t count reading as recharging but more like something to enjoy rather than try to recapture any sort of energy.

I was going to comment on one of your top ten tuesday post but I keep getting internal server error.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a lovely day.

    • You’re welcome.

I don’t know why you’re getting that error, but I’ll try to figure it out.

What sorts of pictures do you like for your jigsaw puzzles?

Yeah, I spend a lot of time in urban parks, too. You’re not alone there.

  9. P.S., the top ten tuesday post is ‘books guranteed to put a smile on your face’

  10. I agree – I like my alone time. It’s nice to have the place to yourself.
